Does anyone own a Leopold FC660C with blank keycaps?
« on: Sat, 18 January 2014, 03:32:23 »
I've been reading about the Leopold FC660C and a lot of people seem to express concern about the quality of the printing on its keycaps. Has anyone tried the version with blank keycaps? http://www.leopold.co.kr/?doc=cart/item.php&it_id=1389148082 Are there any North American sites that sell that version? I wasn't able to find it on elitekeyboards.com or eBay.

Nice find that must be quite new, I checked not too long ago and they didn't have it with any other caps. I must admit I would be far more tempted to get an 660C with blanks.

I've never had issue with the legends. Maybe those with real sweaty hands will cause them to tarnish faster.

You could just get a cheap sand blaster and sandblast the keys

That sucks :( But thanks for confirming. I would rather have blank keys than questionably printed ones. I contacted EK to see if they have any plans on carrying that board so I'll update this thread when I hear from them.

Using both the 660c and the 700r regularly, I have to say that the 660c's letters are holding on more strongly, much more so. Don't know why, but as mentioned in one of the replies, the text does seem to 'bump up' a bit more than my 700r.

I'm still wondering whether there is a white version out, or coming out soon.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I ended up finding a used FC660C with printed caps at a decent price. For anyone else who's interested it looks like EK will have the model with blank keycaps in February.

^it's not just about wear, the physical bump of the lettering is annoying as hell.  not sure how bad it is on the 660c, but it can really suck.

is there a recommended geekhack proxy to get this shipped to canada?

I couldn't feel any legends on the keycaps when I had my fc660c, but the legends sure were ugly, and kind of an off-gold/dark beige, and just overall made the keyboard look kinda cheap. Not to mention they wear so easily.

Mine are already starting to lighten, however this isn't a big deal for me. I'm just getting closer to having an Otaku FC660C.

I honestly think the legends on the Fc660c are pretty damn good looking. Personal opinion of course.

Same, I honestly don't know what you mean when you say they look cheap. They have a clean, unique font and are very nice looking to me.
