Which, in your opinion, is the most over hyped keyboard?

And why?

Personally, I don't understand the hype around the G80-5000. Granted, I've never used one so maybe it's really great to use and I just haven't been blessed to touch one and feel it's almighty power. IMO, it seems a lot of people just want/like them for their rarity. I truly see nothing special in it and actually think they're ugly (I'd much prefer an Ergodox).


Mention HHKB and you're banned 4 lyfe.

After fondling a Realforce, it's definitely on my list as overhyped.  Topre is nice, but not orgasmic bordering on a religious experience like some people act.

And Montetey Blues.  They're nice, but not White Whale worthy.

And I'm surprised, no mention of Korean boards by you demik?

You don't just fondle a topre switch. You take time to make sweet love to it. This isn't high school and you aren't in the back of your mom's borrowed car. Have some class!

I'd say some boards (coughcoughredlinecoughcough) are over priced. But as a whole not over hyped. A heavy board feels really nice. And the ability to customize it to how you like it (granted, sometimes limited to 2-3 layouts) is pretty awesome. I wish my hhkb was heavier. :(

I fail to see the negative of your third point.

But I'll agree with the first. IMO, Realforce Topre switches feel much better than HHKB. And in the HHKB circle, I think I'm alone on that feeling. While I enjoy the switch, I like the 55g RF Topre much more.

MX Black switches of any modding, fiddling, or related shenanigans. You can't fix a bad switch by dressing it up and trimming it.

I consider the layout to be near-perfect.  Not near-perfect for a portable keyboard...near-perfect for any size keyboard.  I can do everything from the home row.  This layout is SO functional for me, that I feel like I am missing functionality on larger keyboards.  The topre switches are nice...not my favorite, but are nice enough that, combined with the layout, the keyboard is top 2 or 3 easy for me.

Most over hyped has to be Korean customs. I mean does having a 7lb aluminum 'tuned' keyboard that can light up an entire room but needs an oddball keyset really all that and a bag of chips?

iMav don't do spreadsheet, do you? Coz my only gripe with HHKB is the lack of arrow keys and therefore I feel that this board is truly overhyped for it's designed by Prof whatshisname who is the authority in some unix whatchamalit.
