I'm surprised the PS/2 port isn't gone from modern motherboards

After browsing through the Newegg motherboard section, a surprising number of motherboards still have 1 PS/2 port.

I thought the PS/2 port would be gone by now, but I guess I was wrong.

Nope. The general consensus here is if you have a PS/2 Port, you use it for your keyboard. It's currently a better option anyways, considering you can do N-Key rollover without any tricks or gimmicks.

My modern keyboard also includes headers on the MB for parallel and serial ports.

As well as 1 IDE and floppy. I'm surprised it included those.

After upgrading to an Ivy Bridge motherboard, I was surprised to find the PS2 port was missing.  It's been a fixture on every other PC I've owned, now I actually have to find my USB adapters.

My haswell MOBO has two PS2 ports

I would buy a motherboard based on the fact that they include a PS/2 port.

My main PC is a unremarkable Dell Optiplex 755.  It doesn't get get any more mundane, but I can get one for under $100 and you can add a PS/2 port with a $6 part.

I think it depends. Normally, the high level MOBO will have PS2, especially the MOBO with target customers are gamers because they know a lot of gamers prefer Ps2 port. For example, the current ASUS flagship for consumer use has a dedicated PS2 port :

On the Asus P8Z77-V board the PS2 ports are replaced with a 4-port USB connector.  They do note that the keyboard and mouse should be plugged into the two ports closest to the base, so there're some vestiges of legacy connectors under it all.
