My dad is looking to get a mechanical keyboard, so I let him try a few of my switches. He seems to like the heaviness of Dark Grey Linear switches and the tactileness of Light Grey switches. He's not interested in doing something like a phantom, so what preassembled keyboard would be best to fit his wants? Is there some sort of ALPS switch like that?
If you truly care about your old man then make a keyboard for him. Don't ask him to pay up for it, simply save and buy one off here and assemble it with Light Greys yourself. If you don't want to do it, easily get one of the professionals here to do it for you. There is nothing here that's been mentioned that even comes close to 120g of pure delight, BS, Thorpie, Greens - are for limp wristed girlie folk.
If you decide to build a keyboard for him he'll appreciate that more then getting him to buy some poor quality made rubbish from the far east. Nothing more durable than a custom made keyboard that shows how much you love him (purely in a father and son way).
I know something about old men, they always go for the cheap because they don't know any better but when he tries your 'gifted' custom-made keyboard, he won't believe his fingers. In fact he'll probably put you first in his will when his time comes
