To sell or not to sell...

I cant decided if I should sell my Ducky Shine 3 Yellow edition (with white switches). I recently bought a Realforce 104UB-DK and a ergodox(clear switches) from massdrop. So now, I'm starting to feel like this is becoming an addiction that I cant afford(its easy to put stuff on credit cards). Should I just sell what I'm not gonna use and keep 1 or what? Also I'm thinking about selling that ergodox(I havent recieved it yet).

If it where up to you guys which one would you keep forever?

A lot of people here have multiple boards and either rotate them around, use them on different computers, or just keep them in storage.

Dude, I know. most people would call us crazy for having such a vast collection of keyboards. I'm still in college. I get a bit of money from my parents, and then a little more from buying and selling things. I just feel so guilty spending money on keyboards that I wont use  . Like I want to keep them all, but the guilt is killing me.

i think having 3 boards of each 60%, 75%, and TKL is great.  then add another board of the size you most prefer.

that way you have two preferred size boards for home and work.  as well, as your tastes change, you have one of each size to toy around with.  if you find that your preferred size changes, you can sell off one of the duplicate size boards and get your new preferred sized board as a fourth.

Don't use credit cards to buy keyboards. If you can't afford to pay cash, don't buy it.

You will regret putting yourself in debt later. Luckily, my credit is terrible, so I pay cash for all my keyboard purchases. But the reason my credit is bad, is that I racked up so much debt that I couldn't afford to pay my bills when I lost my job quite a while ago. Don't be like me. Don't regret being irresponsible and messing up your future.

True words that I should live by. I have good credit since I've always paid off my credit, slowly but surely. But that was when I had a job and I went to community college. Now i'm in a 4 year engineering school, so I cant really work and do well in school, so the parents are helping out. I'll just sell that ergodox when It comes in. I'll probably build it and then sell it.(or would anyone be interested in the kit).

I keep one MX and one Topre at a time. If there's overflow, I sell the MX I like the least. That's been my policy since I got into this hobby.

Keep what you like/use and sell the rest. I bought a bunch of boards when I first started out a couple of years ago and now I only use 2 of them really (SSK and HHKB). The rest I've either sold or I'm stuck with because I can't sell them (Filco MJ2 Black/Black).

that's easy as f**k just cut all ur credit card and use only normal bank account without debt/credit. can't spend more than you have

If your parents are supporting you i think you shouldn't go crazy on keyboards collection, not really fair.

Not cool to give them up, but in the other hand you'll probably feel better about yourself

It is easy to get caught up in all this esoteric elitist stuff with multi-hundred dollar keyboards (which really are nice, really).

I have had a hundred keyboards and 2/3 of them cost less than $5 at some sort of salvage/junk/thrift store/yard sale venue. Most were worth approximately what I paid for them, but I learned about them.

And, when you find something good, spruce it up and sell it for 2x-10x what you paid for it, and use that profit to fund something more desirable.

Eventually you may end up with 2-3 favorites and will want a couple of variations and/or backups for each, but there is little reason to have a collection larger than a dozen, unless you just really like collecting.

The underlying principle holds true, of course. Don't spend what you don't have.
That being said, you you should always pay with your credit card for these types of purchases because of the extra services/consumer protection you get which comes in handy sometimes.

Of course, use cash at gas stations when you travel along the interstate

The trouble is not the keyboard hobby, but your financial planning skills.

According to your budget, you may have one keyboard for your use at home. You can get the second one if you get a well paid job that involves a lot of typing at work.

We all collect something throughout our lives, be it may stamps, coins, cars, letters, or girls. Don't let these hobbies affect your life in a negative way.

As long as you pay off your credit card statement each month you should use it for everything....Get some sort of rewards card and you end up getting a discount on everything you buy...

With all the fraud protection, etc, it is the way to go.  Even more so once the US finally goes w/ smart chip + pin for Credit card purchases...

It's nice having a few favored keyboards. I've bought and sold many KBs after trying them;
but I've kept the KBs that I've liked. I find after years of doing this I've chosen to pare my
keyboard 'reserve'. Just as with key switches, it's a matter of personal preference. If you
like a particular keyboard, hang on to it; and if you feel it's doesn't mean that much to or
won't get any computer time, sell it.
