Use capital letters at the start of your sentences.

Seriously, guys.  It makes it easier to read a block of text.  I am sure this why we use capital letters in the first place.

No, one thing is being a grammar Nazi. Another is not knowing the difference between you're and your. I mean, seriously, this is grade school level ****. I've always seen grammar Nazis as people that complain about run on sentences, lack of punctuation, using the wrong punctuation (for example, when to use colon and semi-colon).

Everyone should read "Eats, Shoots, and Leaves" if you are capable of reading a book, that is.

As an American (US, that is, Canadians are probably much closer to Olde Mum Angleterre in this) it made me realize that proper English punctuation is often superior, although I still prefer US spelling (how many times does the letter "i" occur in the name of the element "aluminum" and what vowel is in the name of the color (a word lacking in a "u") that is a mixture of black and white?).
Citizens United violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system. Now it’s just an oligarchy, with unlimited political bribery being the essence of getting the nominations for president or to elect the president.
So now we’ve just seen a complete subversion of our political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.”

Haha, did you pick that example on purpose? :D

We pronounce that extra 'i'. We found it. We named it. Followed a logical pattern, no less! You don't say Chromum, do you?!

Quote
1807

The English chemist Sir Humphrey Davy underlined the existence of the element arguing that "alum" was the salt of an unknown metal which he said should be called ‘alumium’. The name was respelt as the more pleasant sounding ‘aluminium’ by later scientists. Davy tried unsuccessfully to produce aluminium by electrolysing a fused mixture of aluminium oxide and potash.

edit: Oh Cock. The etymology of Aluminum is far more convoluted than that, apparently!

no.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I prefer aluminium, though I say aluminum.  However, I do spell them colour, favour, etc.  And I spell it grey.  Grey just feels more right.
