HHKB Pro 2 Best of Mac or PC?
« on: Mon, 24 February 2014, 20:08:43 »
I've been looking at an HHKB Pro 2 keyboard. From what I've read on EK's site, it seems that the keyboard is better suited to Macs than PC because more KB functions are offered for Mac than PC users. Is this so or is there some salient point I'm missing? Thanks.

media keys like volume, power and brightness only work on mac.
otherwise arrow, home/end, page up/down work on both.

I find I need arrow keys, home, end, page up/down far, far more on PC than Mac.

On Mac control characters do most of those, like Ctrl-A for line beginning, Ctrl-F for forward 1 char etc.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I don't find it to be an issue, use it on a mac at work and a pc at home.

I feel the same: cursor and page keys are important to me. I use my computers for writing rather
than gaming, and I'd likely regret the loss of cursor and page keys. I'm intrigued by HHKBs, but the
intrigue might be short-lived if I had to repeatedly reach for mouse rather than go to frequently used
KB commands.

Thanks for the assists; I appreciate your collective input. Perhaps a worthy consideration is an FC660C.
I do like my Topre switches, albeit the company's 55-gram key switch. Sometimes the 'want' for a new
keyboard is relentless. I even had, felt compelled, to pick up one Cherry MX KB (MX Blue in my instance)
simply because of the near endless mods one can perform. It's a keyboard DIY thing.
endless mods one might enjoy doing.

FC660C has received overwhelmingly good reviews.

Also the CM Novatouch to be released soon.  Maybe.
