Ducky Shine 3 Question. LED delay.
« on: Wed, 05 March 2014, 21:05:06 »
Hi Geekhack!
I just purchased my first mechanical keyboard recently. It is a ducky shine 3 yots. Sadly, I spilled a monster drink on the bottom corner and my control key was a bit sticky. I looked up a guide on cleaning the switch and I decided to use the hot water with straw method posted by ripster. I didn't have any alcohol on hand. I let the keyboard dry upside down for a few days and when I plugged it in everything was working fine, but I noticed that the control key LED doesn't immediately turn on when I plug the keyboard in. It takes about one second for it to light up while all the other keys light up immediately. Other than that there is nothing wrong with the keyboard and the control key works fine. The LED stays lit, despite that slight delay in turning on. Do any of you ducky owners have this issue? I'm not sure if all ducky shine 3s do this or if it's because I spilled the monster on it. What do you guys think is wrong?

1. unplug
2. take off keycap.
3. unscrew cover.
4. use >90% alcohol on brush to clear it.
5. screw cover.
6. put on keycap.
7. if that will not help unsolder diode put new one. But never use water instead of alcohol due to minerals in water......

Thanks for the response mapple. I will try and get some alcohol. I bought deoxit to use, but may return it because the stickyness is all gone now. Can you check both of your duckies and see if the control key lights up slightly after the rest of the keyboard after you plug it in?

They should all light up at the same time. I had 2 DS2s.

hey there's something tricky about that cause whenever i put capslock as a capslock it lights up 100% but when i change dip caps lock->control and click on control you are 100% right it's like kinda dimmed... like 60-70% of light. doh right control works normally.
that's on shine 3 tkl on g2pro i don't have diode under control even though there's dip switch to swap caps<->control.

I also noticed today that if I change lighting modes (I previously just had it on all keys lit without effects) then the control key doesn't lag in getting lit up when I plug in the keyboard. I have it on breathing light mode right now and all the keys light up at the same time upon plugging it in. So I think my control key diode is fine.
