There might actually be a shred of hope for humanity
« on: Thu, 06 March 2014, 22:00:26 »
Today one of the tasks that was on my hone do list was to deposit my pay check of 2 and a half days into the bank.  While some of you might not think this is much but my take home was north of $900.  Well, on my way to pick my son up from school, I stopped at the gas station to pick up a pack of smokes.  For some unknown reason I put the check in my left back pocket with my phone.  I pulled my phone out to check on the status of the Toxic set while waiting in line.  Unbeknownst to me, it fell out.  Obviously the wife was panicked that I had lost this much money.  About 10 minutes ago my doorbell rang, it was well after 9 pm.  A local school bus driver had picked it up and knew where I lived so he actually drove the check to my house and handed it to me personally.

That's kind. Go midwest!

In the worst case though, your company would have a put a stop on that check and just given you a new one.
I know that's not the point, but anyways.

so, $1800 a week? good.
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

At the very least I sure hope.  If pulling in $2900 then he's in a good section where tax concessions really do kick in beautifully (at least here in Australia).

That's a good story.  I now feel comfortable emerging from basement, where I have been since Keycon 2013, and interacting with other human beings.

bah, stay in the basement.  People are horrible.  I agree with demik, the bus driver was just delivering the check in order to check out the house for future home invasion, torture and murder.  That's what happens in the midwest.  Or haven't you seen the movies Capote, Infamous or Badlands?  And even if you survive the home invasion from the bus driver, you'll more than likely get gun downed by some gun-crazy nut out there in 'Murica's heartland.  Here in NYC, you just have to avoid getting shot by the Po Po Mans.

It was 6 hours straight time for orientation on Thursday
12.5 hours of overtime from Saturday
and 14 hours of double time from Sunday

The 937 was take home after taxes and union deduction which is about 9% of my gross.

Really? I'm always re-locking and double checking all the locks on the cars and the house. Too many weirdos around here.

Indianapolis has a higher murder rate than New York.  Someone got shot and killed two blocks from my house a couple weeks ago.  I'm staying in the basement.

You clearly don't live in a city.

I really hated the ghetto I had to live in as a student. It wasn't quite a war zone, but enough that I'll never go back without bringing as many guns as the average Republican has in his house.
