First PBT Set
« on: Sun, 09 March 2014, 04:23:57 »
So after four months with a CM QFR with Browns and a newly developed MKAD, I'm now itching to try me some Reds in form of a new Filco MJ2 soon. But, I want to get some better keycaps from the start this time and as it turns out, finding PBT suppliers in Europe resp. any PBTs in stock at all is not so easy. Anyway, since this is going to be my first PBT set, I thought I'd ask of your opinion if this would be a good starter set resp. how good the quality of these Ducky caps really is?

http://mechanicalkeyboards.com/shop/index.php?l=product_detail&p=69

Thanks!

I've got a set of Ducky side printed PBT on my Filco, they are definitely much nicer then the stock caps but they are quite thin PBT caps. Haven't had any trouble with them but I have ordered myself a set of Thick PBT Black on Black caps (Ivan's GB) to replace them. Banggood also had some well priced PBT caps the other day with free shipping not sure how great they are though.

If you have the time and patience, I would recommend hunting down some nice doubleshot BSP keycaps. They are thick and smooth PBT caps in cherry profile with cherry legends.

Edit: Wow yeah so fail today. SO FAIL. FACEPALM x2! Definitely dyesub. Ugh, I blame Mondays.

These are not doubleshot, they are dyesub.
Also, don't buy from Originative right now, the owner has gone MIA, there are no replies to emails and paid orders don't get shipped out. The store is pretty much dead and if you buy something from it now, there is a high risk of losing money.

I just read this morning about DS PBT caps. I will dig for the link to post it here.

The doubleshot PBT caps were from Vortex I believe. i3oilermaker had a novelty cap that was doubleshot pbt and then dyesubbed but AFAIK, Vortex was the first and only people to offer doubleshot PBT caps. The BSP caps are indeed dyesubbed. And very nice I might add.

Here you are: This is the set I read this morning about. PBT DS and it is cherry profile I think. it should last forever, and the textures will remain longer than ABS.

Vortex DS PBT are "OEM" profile.

It's a shame, too tall for my liking. I'd better go for the DSA PBT with sublimated legends that Matt is leading. It would last forever as well...

Deck does PBT doubleshots as well, but I don't know who was first, I think Vortex.

Do they? If that's the case, Deck probably did it first. But I don't know too much about their products.

Yep, the Hassium and Francium have them. They came out about the same time as Vortex, and Vortex is in China so it's hard to say who was actually first.

Ohhh I see. I thought you meant that the older Deck keyboards had them. Like I said, I'm not really up on my Deck info.

The keycaps only are not available for sale, and with the information I gave (name of the keyboards and brand) finding said keyboards is one google query away.
