Hello from Raleigh, NC
« on: Fri, 14 March 2014, 21:14:54 »
Hi all,

I'm a long time mech user, starting out with the Model M and variants on IBM terminals in the 90s.

I've had a Kinesis Ergo Pro q|d, but it broke years ago. Most recently, I've been a unicomp user, with a 108 key. At work I use a TEK 109 blank with browns.

I'm looking to to upgrade my home keyboard with something small but still capable enough to game on.

I'm currently into the browns, and I'd like to have backlit keys (white) as I want to mod them with color filters. Presently the Ducky Shine 3 TKL is the thing I've focused on, but I'm curious about all small form factor keyboards.

I wouldn't mind a lack of cursor if the keyboard did fn-wasd, and f-keys behind fn 1-= would probably be ok with me as well.

Anyway, that's my mechanical hobby in a nut-shell.

Hey!, welcome to GH. If you want to get a small KB with backlit keys you may explore the KBT Pure Pro backlit edition. I am not sure if it was only a GB or if it is available and in stock with some vendors, just google it.

I just find this one, but it does not have the switch you want.

That's one of the two I narrowed it down to.

I ordered on at mk, but then found that I'd have a hard time with the layout with the small shift key. I've sent them an email asking if I can cancel it. I'll probably instead go with the ANSI-standard Poker II design.

I had a misapprehension at first that the Poker II was PCB mounted, as the original Poker was. It's plate mounted so I was wrong. Also, I thought it wouldn't be programmable, which was also not true.

I still like browns, so I'll be going with that plus the very swank looking green back-light.

Alright then good luck. I have an original Poker X, pcb mounted, with reds, and I was trying to use it for a year. I cannot deal with its lack of arrow key.

The original has two ways to access the arrows:

a) WASD + FN
b) right bottom cluster with FN+Spacebar lock

I got a Poker II in green with brown keys, like I mentioned wanting.

It types quieter than my unicomp, so it's not as obnoxious. I like the camber of the keys, and they aren't as grippy as the pbt keys on the unicomp, but they glow nicely.

At full brightness, I noticed that the green glows quite nicely around the keys, so I could easily go with blank keys in pbt and still enjoy the backlight.

(sorry about the potato quality)

These are DSA PBT keys from PMK. I love the feel of the material, the quiet and the way the green backlight glows through the white and not the black. really thick, too. The RGB mods are still OEM profile and they stick out nicely in person and on the fingers. My kit was missing a black 2.25x so they're sending one along. Signature Plastics is great, will buy again from them.
