Is it Possible to De-Ping a CMQFR?

I bought a CMQFR for my niece and you can easily hear it 'ping' whenever any key is pressed.
I have the same KB, sans the annoying pinging. Is it possible to take out or reduce the ping?
If anyone has a method for doing this, I'd appreciate the know-how. I'll do the mod for her, if
there is one. Thanks.

Springs usually create 'ping' issue, so if you want to reduce it maximally, you need to lube the springs.

I can lube the springs easily enough. I thought it was the key switches hitting the
metal plate and in some way I'd have to deaden the sound. Thanks for the advice.

What Pacifist is tryig to say is that some people put some shelf liner behind the PCB, so that it fills the room between PCB and case, which can help with dampening the ping sound.

Give your nice yours and keep the pinger. To mess w/ the springs you have to desolder the switches, can't open them in place. Try the shelf line 1st.

Shelf liner it is. I'm going to pick up a roll this evening at Lowe's. I figured I had to dampen the plate,
but was uncertain about what material to use. I hadn't done anything to the springs, figuring it was
a plate issue.

I gave my niece my KB this afternoon--I put her new key caps on it so it looks pristine; and mine I've
had for only three weeks. I don't mind using a modded keyboard, but I wanted hers to be new and
without any pinging. Thanks for the shelf-liner information--I'll give it a go.

Now the Frosty Flake has me interested. Damn, you guys get me into more I-gotta-try-this...
But I wish I had one before disassembling the CMQFR. Nonetheless, I have to read about
the advantage of a Frosty Flake. What the hell, I might as well do some mods with
this KB--who doesn't like doing mods?

I've got to read about difference in using a Forsty Flake controller.

You can buy the parts or the fully assembled version (check the link I posted.) Once it's together it's a drop-in replacement, no need for soldering. Here's the documentation.

I found that big scary SMD chip pretty easy to solder. Oddly enough the through hole headers were the hardest part.

I took the CMQFR apart and installed a fitted shelf liner. The result? No more ping!
Thanks for the tip; worked as it should. Now I have zero ping and a solid click-and-thock
keyboard.

Now to find some good double-shot ABS key caps.
