I need a mechanical numpad
« on: Tue, 18 March 2014, 16:31:58 »
I need a mechanical keypad to go with my future TKL keyboard. I want to have Cherry MX black's on them (or any MX, I'll just swap them out). Bonus points for style/looks, but build quality is more important.

This is the layout I need:

Keycool's 22 key numpad has had some good things said about it. I like that this is a new thread so I can jump straight in about KC's good build quality. It might have a few more keys than you are after, but it looks pretty good.

I am trying to look around to see where you can get one in stock, blacks look out of stock, but you might have some luck going onto mechanicalkeyboards.com's vendor forum on here and asking when they will get them back in stock again.
Can we get them to build the Alps ten feet higher and get Cherry to pay for it?

Yeah I was looking at that one, but could not find it anywhere, and if the keypad supports top removal of the MX's I can swap them right away, I have 25 extra MX black laying around.

:p

That's an interesting ... thing.  99c buy it now.Nearly $82 postage (to Australia) though.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Pretty sure it has MX black, and looks like SP DSA caps. But might be MX clear? You could ask the seller to pull a cap if you want confirmation.

Why would you guess M8? That seems really unlikely to me. (But who knows.)

Because cherry had low profile keys with M8's.

There is a G80-0??? that also uses DSA style caps and it uses M8s iirc. As Ray said, the M8s were for low profile usage.
