Hello from the SF Bay Area
« on: Fri, 21 March 2014, 14:59:15 »
What's up Ya'll?

I'm from SF (Oakland really, not going to lie) and probably what most of you mech vets would call a n00b when it comes to mechanical keyboards. I've been a competitive gamer since I was 14 (CS 1.6/SC/SC2) attending tournaments and things like that, but never got that interested in keyboards until I was 24 (25 now).

I'm a designer/art director by trade and I think I finally found a sub-interest that combines art/design/form&function/gaming and even a bit of typography etc.

So for the past 6 months I've been obsessed with keyboards - trying to learn as much as I can. I'm still very much a novice...I've sold my two main keyboards in order to save for a couple nice ones. Probably an 87-key and most definitely a 60% (Leopold or maybe Poker II not sure yet, thoughts?).

The only ones I've saved are the ones I use for gaming currently: CM Storm QuickFire Pro (browns) which I picked up brand new at a garage sale for $50 and then I also have a Corsair K70 (reds) that doesn't get used much but was given to me in a graphics card swap.

So like I said, maybe some thoughts on the smaller form factor keyboards and which ones still take to gaming. I design mostly on a Mac, although having Mac compatibility would be nice for one of the two I buy in the future.

FINALLY - (I swear this will end) I love custom keys/keycaps. Not really into different text/type/images that much but I love creating color schemes that work, and seeking out keycaps that could work for a next build, etc. So what are some of your favorite sites for keycaps? Currently I'm looking for two things: white keys with colored text (preferably blue or red), black keys with gold/brass text that's either on top or on the front of the key.

Looking forward to learning from everyone here. Love ya.

Thanks CPT! Appreciate the welcome and the links. I'll check 'em out.

I figured there would be a fair amount of SF/Bay Area GHers all things considered :)
