How long do you think they will stay in stock?

(apologies if I posted this in the wrong sub-forum)

I'd be more likely to consider one if it had 55-gram Topre switches.
However, this keyboard with its 45-gram switches has a good size
fan base.

As a huge fan of the RF 55g, and a huge non-fan of the 45g RF, I will say that the 45g switches on the 660C are actually really, really nice to type on. There's a crispness and tactility to them that I didn't find on either the HHKB or the 45g RF. I have no clue why it is, but there ya go.

I had the HHKB 45g, Realforce Variable, Realforce 55g, Leopold 45g.
I put the 55g in the HHKB. So also had a 55g HHKB.

After using all of the above for a few weeks I decided the Leopold FC660C All 45G was the board for me.

Everyone is different but I seriously love the feel of this.. Is it the steel plate and the angle of the case? Maybe.. Not sure but its perfect.
PS: The 55G on the HHKB was the best snappy responsive board but I like this Leo all 45 w the steel plate for long sessions.

I think the 660 has the most immediately usable of any compact layout.

Oh, now I remember my gripe with it. You can't hit Ctrl+Shift+Esc to get the task manager :-(

I describe my Topre love in the very same words as yours.

But what you say about the 660C 45g is puzzling.

Thanks for the feedback all.

I have my first Topre (Realforce 87U 55g) board coming in the mail, and I have a feeling I'm going fall in love with it and most likely want another one...

I hope the 660C doesn't sell out soon! :thumb:

It's because shift+esc registers as ~ at the hardware level.

Meaning ctrl+shift+esc registers as ctrl+~ to windows.

I have been super tempted to get a 660M with clears. Found them on ebay so far... But I gave in and got 2 other MX boards instead..  Soon people will know which ones..

I've heard this from another guy on GH. After owning two 45-gram 87Us and replacing them with 55g RF KBs, I'm intrigued about how the FC660C manages to produce a different feel from Topre's 45g switch. There's no doubt on my part, if this keyboard was 55 grams, it'd be on my desk alongside my 87UB. Thanks for the information, daerid.

This is precisely my only gripe with the layout as well.  Such a shame...Maybe I should remap insert to be Esc...

I mean, I understand why they wanted ~ to be easily accessible, but I don't think it would've been that bad to have to hit Fn+Shift+` to get ~. It's what I have to do on my ErgoDox layout and it's not that bad at all.

Another (probably less troublesome for most) problem is in Visual Studio, Shift+Escape is used to close tool windows. Which of course can't be done on the 660 layout.

surely if you're willing to make compromises getting a 60% keyboard, you'd also make an effort to remap certain keybindings that don't work anymore.

I can use the chord in my FC660M, I do not see any reason you cannot do it in the Topre version, because the key chord is in the OS not in the keyboard.

Apologies for the negative vibrations!

I asked EK sales if they have any info on replacement keycaps for their compact Topre boards. Not sure if I will be getting an answer.

Would the Topre keys at EK fit the FC66C?  For example their WASD clusters?

They would fit, but the font is different so it wouldn't look spectacular.  And actually I'm not entirely sure on the profile issue, perhaps someone with more experience can comment on that.  (I've only got the fc660c with stock caps)

Yes. These keys are problematic though:

The problem keys are in black?

So I could put the yellow WASD cluster on an otherwise black-keycapped FC660C?

As with all things Leopold, I don't even expect to find replacement spacebars, regardless of switch!

Thanks again!

The mods are funky (at least if you're trying to replace them with a Realforce set), since those have 1.5x and 1x keys, rather than the 1.25x on the 660c.  But if you're just trying to do a WASD set you shouldn't have any problems.
