GeekHack Community Survey Results! (+Raffle Winner)
« on: Wed, 02 April 2014, 06:10:41 »
First of all, thank you to everyone who participated! We had 111 responders, which is a great start if you ask me. Hopefully in the future we can have even more participation :))

Next, the raffle winner and the the raffle prize. Congratulations  to HipsterPunks for being randomly picked via Random.org!
He will be winning an exclusive custom keycap made by Dodgy, pictures of the cap will be available soon! If you're interested in Dodgy's work, you can check out his progress thread here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=54513.0

Next, the moment you have been waiting for... the survey results!
I have uploaded (almost) all of the Google Form summary results to an Imgur album located here:
Community Survey Results

I will be updating soon with the following missing results:
-Age
-Keyboard Count (Owning/Owned)
-Keycap Set Count

These results are missing because instead of having people input a range (ex. 18-24 for age), I took specific numbers instead. This makes for awkward bar graphs, so I will either compile them into ranges, or create a box plot or something.

Finally, I will be providing specific data information, but only when requested. This can be things such as "What percentage of Filco users can touch type?" or "Which countries are most likely to have local stores that sell keyboard?" Since there are tons and tons of possible combinations of these kinds of results, I'm going to only provide them only when asked. This will be easier on me :P and also let me only report extra data that will actually have demand.

Thanks again, enjoy!

This thread will be for discussing the results of the survey. To discuss the actual execution of the survey and provide feedback, I'm unlocking the original thread located here: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=55785.msg1255865

0 = South Korea
3 = Southeast Asia
4 = Oceania

These low numbers are very surprising.

From the US Constitution, Article 1, Section 8 :

The   Congress   shall have Power
To declare War,  grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal, and make Rules concerning Captures on Land and Water;
To provide for calling forth the Militia  to execute the Laws of the Union, suppress Insurrections and repel Invasions;

-- mx blues are the most frequently tried, almost the most loved and the most hated switches, lulz
-- most of the respondents can touch type
-- 70 of 110 have no idea of how to properly use ctrl key
-- 18 prefer cherry brand? o rly? POS keyboards / keyboards with integrated devices?
-- most people have no access to keyboards in the local stores :(
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

I think some formatting of the results could be benificial. For instance in the rankings, sorting the entries in ascending or descending order would make a lot of sense to make it faster to distinguish trends and results.

"So, are you a man or woman?"

"other"

"And are you in a relationship of any sort?"

"no, I'm in an other"

Also amusing how blues are so loved and hated at the same time, and Cherry profile dominates everything in it's category. Props to the community for being doers. Lots of taking boards apart and modding going on, which is part of what keeps this community strong.

Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.
