Does anyone here juice? not the schwarzenegger kind
« on: Fri, 04 April 2014, 21:51:18 »
i meant like veggies and greens?

amazon has a sale on the omega 2006 juicer

so i decided to buy one.

literally it seems i just buy stuff cuz of the tech

i think there are 3 ways to juice

1. masticate (what this one does)
2. blend (blendtech/blender/mixer/vitamix/will it blend)
3. centrifugal (jack la lane juicer)

so far it seems that the masticators give you more juice, it's basically a big ass auger and it screws the hell out of greens/veggies, the pulp comes out super dry

the blenders just destroy everything and liquifies it so you can just drink your ****, it also does something bad (ppl say) which is it oxidizes the juice so nutrients are less and it goes bad faster (masticator doesn't do this)

centrifugal just destroys stuff like a blender, except the stuff goes through a screen first so you don't get any pulp, only juice.

for me the centrifugal machine i use is not only annoying to clean, it's pretty disgusting after a while, makes me not want to use it.

i don't want to blend and drink an entire bussell of carrots so i don't want a blender

the masticators seems to be easy enough cleanup, i just have to cut stuff more, it's not bad, i have pretty good knives and decent knife skills.

oh i also have access to a farmers market a few blocks away so its not difficult to aquire literally boxes of veggies and greens

any juicing ppl wanna chime in?

oh man, i thought this was a 'roids thread.  So disappoint.

Remember kids to cycle:  six weeks on the juice, six weeks off.  And have your friend pee in the cup for you!  It's safer.  Also make sure your friend is male.   Very bad to have female pee pee in your cup.  Makes you look like a cheater.  Which you aren't.  You da champ.

I have a couple of the centrifugal kind. They are the worst at giving you the pulp, but by far the cheapest.

Naturally, the overwhelming problem is that you have to spend 5 minutes cleaning the thing immediately after you use it.

Although the Jack LaLanne is probably more durable and powerful, I don't like the way it assembles and cleans.

For small jobs (eg something like 5 carrots, 2 sticks of celery, half a cucumber, half a green pepper, a couple of tomatillos, and half a beet, if I have it) the JuiceMan 2 is much faster and easier to clean, although it is pretty cheap and flimsy. Most of the other really cheap ones have impossibly narrow throats.

Whenever I have an extra $300-400 laying around I will buy a BlendTec and just buzz the entire mess into pulp, rinds and all.

I use a blender as a cheat method for eating more fruits and vegetables because it's too much of a chore to eat them habitually. It's one of these:

My girlfriend has been going on about getting a juicer, but I don't see the point of having yet another kitchen appliance taking up space when you can just buy juice from the shop.

had apple + pear + celery juice this morning during breakfast. my rental apartment already had this juicer and it doesn't take a lot of time to clean.

so far this omega juicer wrings the **** out of fruits and veggies. the pulp is super dry.

i did pear/apple/orange/grapefruit/carrot/kale and a bit of jalepeno

man it was nasty, i later decided to fill it with a bit of water and put some carbonation in it (i have a soda stream) and it was kinda cool that way.

man my grocery bill is easily gonna 4x trying this out, maybe i'll just loose my appetite juicing and not worry about eating.

I use the Omega, as well. The only grip I have is their customer support, which I have emailed several times to no avail.

The wringer (the part that turns and crushes ****) cracked on me and I need it replaced. Other than that, it works amazingly well.
