Originative says my credit card was issued in China
« on: Sat, 19 April 2014, 07:16:06 »
I recently placed my 2nd order with Originative,  for a PBT classic beige set. The first was for a Dolch numpad last month which worked out fine.

I didn't get a shipping notification for a couple days so I emailed.  Sherry responded within 12 hours to his credit, but he said he was having problems with my order and asked why I used a credit card issued in China.

of course, my credit card is a plain BOFA Visa issued in the USA. No idea what he's talking about. I am waiting on another reply from him. Just wanted to share this odd story. Will post an update when I have one.

And since when a vendor should be concerned about where a CC was issued?

Yea I think it's a red flag for sure, especially when the order is placed from another country.

of course, the present problem is that my card is not, in fact, Chinese, and it's troubling that Sherry says it is. I'm not even sure how a plain Bank of America CC from Arizona could be mistaken for that.

either a simple but strange mistake, or payment processor shenanigans I think. Hopefully the former.

Does that website still use the unsecure buying method?

That means nothing, friend.

I doubt that originative has been compromised, but they do need to renew their damn cert.

That means nothing, friend.

It does mean something,  it means that data transmission between you and that server is encrypted. obviously that doesn't protect you against whoever receives the data, but it's def more than nothing and I think it's what Latin meant. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, it turns out that Sherry got me confused with another order and there was no problem. The package is shipped.

https means something really bad when SSL has a heartbleed bug lol.

Back on topic, all my purchases (three to four I believe) from Originative are done with a card issued in China. Even if your card was issued in China, this shouldn't be a problem at all.
