I'm wondering if, hypothetically, you could add one new key to your keyboard—anything—what would the label be, and what would its function be?

I would like a stop key that pushes someone away from their computer when they are being a ****ing idiot.

Would be useful on Facebook, Reddit and while playing Dota.

Transpose current glyph and next one; as someone who types in a fashion that producews a lot of transpositions, this would be efficient.

"New Key" meaning something above and beyond, I would like to have left and right mouse buttons on my keyboard.

Another dream key would be a "Hyper-Escape" for whenever I was hung that meant "just stop whatever the **** you are doing and return me to the desktop"

As for keycaps, a really cool green "Refresh" and a hot red or orange "Delete" would be fun.

When it comes to something grounded in reality I'm undecided.

Wishfully thinking I would love a facepalm key that would dispense my wrath in the form of a punch to the face over standard TCP/IP.

A "Who Are You" key to remind me who I am when I have an existential crisis.

Luckily one of my keyboards has this key.



EDIT: I'm also going to take this opportunity to tell you all about a real key you didn't even know you desperately want. The compose key. You can just hold the key (You set what it is, I have mine on right alt) and type characters which it then blends together, for example RALT+ss makes ß, RALT+CCCP makes ☭. You can also make custom entries yourself.

In Mac OS X, almost all text boxes support using Ctrl-T to transpose characters. It’s also pretty straightforward to change this or other keybindings if you want.

I'd like a button for solving catchpas.

I'd like all of the extra weird buttons on the space cadet keyboard. Not sure what I'd make them do, however. Actually, lots of old hall effect boards have cool keys with weird stuff on them that'd I'd like to have.

Oh! I know! I'd want a button that would heat my keyboard! I hate typing with cold fingers.

I have remapped "Insert" to "Close". The close key closes the currently focused window. On Windows it just send a Ctrl-F4. It is surprisingly handy and addictive.

I actually have this as meta+~. It's pretty nice to have sometimes. I personally use a program called "Yakuake", but there are other programs too. Or if you use something like awesome/xmonad/other crazy configurable wms (I usually do, but have been using kde recently to try it out again) you can set it up with any terminal emulator inside your wm.

As a programmer it would be nice to have a key that would insert comment blocks / characters correctly for the giving programming language in question regardless of the text editor and OS.  This is course is a pipe dream, but it would still be something nice.
