Hard vs Soft carrying case
« on: Mon, 28 April 2014, 20:01:34 »
Which one is better? Are they about the same?

What I see:

Hard:
sturdy
Keys won't hit against other things in your bag (but may hit against the actual case)

Soft:
Flexible
Cheaper; easier to find
Board won't bounce against it (but may be smushed by backpack and whatnot)

A keyboard roof would solve for the bouncing issues for both setups

also how does everybody feel about using gun socks as soft cases? Biggest gripe I have about some cases is they spill little fibers everywhere on the board but it looks like gun socks are designed not to have those issues

If I was walking, I'd prefer a soft bag with a shoulder strap.

If driving, then a hard case you provide better protection.

When using a soft case, I'd probably wrap a tea towel around the keyboard so the keycaps weren't rubbing against the case all the time.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Any good place to get one with the shoulder strap? I don't really like the ones from Steelseries or razer. I would want one to be able to keep mouse and mousepad in the bag. So far I've only found the Korean one, but I have no idea if my mousepad would fit.

Rig - i3 6300, 240GB SSD, 500GB SSD, Gigabyte H170N Wifi, 16GB DDR4, Zotac 1060 Mini, 650w SuperFlower

I have a TT bag. Its huge, fits everything, even a M-122 (just barely)

I like the hard ones because they offer some protection against bumps.

I don't really want a huge bag, but how much did that tt bag cost?

That sounds like my kind of price ;)

And that it would easily hold a standard Model M.

What is the actual name of the bag, the only ones I could find after a brief search was the Transporter Carry Bag (AU$58) or the Battle Dragon Bag (AU$98)?

Thanks for that.  The Aussie store seems to have something slightly different:

http://store.thermaltake.com.au/product_info.php?products_id=102

And a much greater price (sale or not).

The one pacifist bought seems to be a lot better than what we have here though, rowdy.

Beyerdynamic DT bag or shoe case with custom padding for the ErgoDox. Otherwise, I use thick stiff bubble wrap for my choc mini and just nothing for the TypeMatrix 2030, because it's durable enough with a skin.

I throw my keyboards like that in my backpack and then often run with it.
