White-black contrast and desk
« on: Wed, 30 April 2014, 08:25:09 »
I am wondering if I have just some sort of OCD but anyway.. My desk is deep dark brown (easily mistaken for black). My HHKB Pro 2 is black (as is my Filco MJT 2 TKL), My LCD is black, my boxes are black, my mouse (G400s) is black with dark blue. So all in all, black with more black with some touches of black with the exception of some more black.

Now, I am planning to buy a HHKB Pro 2 Type-S and these beauties:

Also available in white:

The HHKB Pro 2 Type-S only comes in white, I quite like the Yamaha monitors in white, but black is also not far off.

So my question is: do you find it disturbing / ugly to match white with black? What are your opinions? Any other pics of set-ups?

This thread is great for looking at people's setups: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=33167.0.

I think you might be interested in LastPilot's desk in particular.

And I think white and black go nicely together.

I recently went from an off-white desk to a black desk, and have a white HHKB Pro 2.

I seem to prefer white keyboards.

I also seem to find the white keyboard on black desk nicer, however my white desk is a nicer (and newer) desk than the black one.

Why did I switch?  The black desk is noticeably larger than the white one.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Cool, thanks all. I went white on black (well, deep dark brown actually). Just posted my set up here:
