Leopold FC660M replacement cases in the US?
« on: Thu, 01 May 2014, 00:04:10 »
Does anyone know if there is anywhere that ships to the US, that sells Leopold FC660M replacement cases?

I just got a board with the grey case, and I'm thinking I should have gone with black. A metal case would be even better.

Merci

I asked qtan about the cases here, and he replied to say that the cases are not available separately.

Whether that is just him, or whether cases are not available separately anywhere, I am not sure, but I suspect the latter.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Shoot, thanks. Guess that means exchanging, painting, or ordering another one...

I don't think they make this board in black or white with MX Clears. Unless you mean somebody would trade the casing only.

No, they didn't. I bought the black board and clear white keys separately. More expensive but now I have replacement keys.

Maybe somebody has a similar setup and is reconsidering it. I am still tempted by the red case. Specially since I showed the purchase to my girlfriend and she ignited the doubt by saying she likes the red more. Damn. Too many options sometimes  :D

Wait what? Like you bought the black board and then modded the switches to MX Clears?

No no. I meant clear white key caps. As in without any letters/symbols printeed on them.

Ahhh haha, yeah. I was talking about MX Clears, as in the switch type. You can only buy this board with MX Clears with a white or grey case, not black. I'm just wondering how easy it is to change the case if somebody was willing to trade.

Darn, really? He must have sold out of them then, because that wasn't an option when I ordered a few weeks ago.

yeah, they used to have black fc660m's with clears - I think the one in this review is one of them: http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=44310.0
but anyways, I don't think replacing the case will be as hard as finding one - I've seen people buy a new 660m just to replace the case :-X

I'd like to change my black case for grey, but I think that the US-EU shipping kills this option..

By the way, how do I disassemble the 660m, are the screws under the pads on the bottom?
EDIT: Got it, it's just one screw under the round don't remove sticker.

You think so? It's pretty small and lightweight. I imagine we could pack them up in bubble wrap envelopes.
