Question about the Corsair K65
« on: Fri, 02 May 2014, 03:08:13 »
Hi everyone, I plan on to get the corsair k65. Due to the metal or w.e it is plate and the exposed look :O However I heard they keycaps aren't default size or something. Will this be a problem if i wanted to put custom keycaps on the board. Also will this be a problem if i wanted to do the o ring mod?

Thanks for all the help. I put this in the keyboard section since specifically talking about the Corsair K65 keyboard :D

Different keycap sizes will not affect the o-ring mod. However, this will affect your ability to put custom keycaps on the bottom row of the keyboard as most keycap sets use a standard layout (1.25 unit length modifiers for ctrl, alt, winkey, etc. and a 6.25 unit length space bar), while the K65 has a different layout.

If you're interested in a mechanical keyboard with a standard layout and an exposed look, check out the Flashget keyboards here. The website, Banggood, is reliable but takes ages to ship because they ship from China (upwards of a month I think).

To be honest that KB looks nice, however I never heard of the brand Flashget. Has anyone ever bought that kind of KB here at geekhack before :P. Also the casing looks like its metal like the corsair KB.

Great board.  Been using mine for 6 mo. & like it better than my Filco MJ2 camo TKL w/ blues.  I put red O-rings on it but would maybe try blacks in the future.
I got a feeeevah!

Hey!

O-ring mods won't ever have a problem because all keycaps have the same stem width, so that won't be an issue. However, for putting on custom caps, like minho said, there are some strange sizes. It has a 6.5x spacebar, as well as a weird variety of 1.5x, 1x, and 2x (what it appears as, anyways), so you wouldn't be able to replace all of the bottom row. Something to consider, though, is that the Corsair spacebars have an engraved texture which lasts and is overall quite nice; perhaps you won't want replace it even if you could.
