This isn't goodbye! You'll still have access to the internet for God's sake!! LOL.

That said: best of luck. Keep an open mind. Commit to this change that you're making in your life. There's a lot of good to be had here: you won't just meet people from all different walks of life - you'll live with them for months & years maybe.

You won't just travel to some foreign country for a two week holiday: you'll go there to live for some time.

The armed forces certainly aren't for everyone but if you're curious then I say it's certainly worth a look.

If you haven't signed up for the GI Bill already do so as soon as you can: whatever it is that they take out of your pay these days is so worth it it's just silly. You can't buy an option like the GI Bill on the civilian side.

Best Wishes to the New Recruit!!

All the best - hope you can stay safe!
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

I guess I passed the 1000 post line today or yesterday. I will take what is given to me star wise. I spend most of my GH time in off topic so I'm WELL over 1k posts haha. I feel like I've been here forever.

EDIT: Actually I'm at 1910 posts. Almost 50% of my time in off topic.

(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

lol.  Okay.  I'm glad to hear he's going to be safe.  My advice was going to be to volunteer for the typing pool, so he won't be around the shooting and the improvised bombs.  Actually this is still my advice:  volunteer for the typing pool, and put your keyboard skillz to work for your country!

Good ol' mandatory military service

On one hand, being told you must give up two years of your life to do something you may not want to do really sucks.

On the other hand, as someone who enlisted in the military late (age 25), I wish I had entered at 18 and served for a couple years, for the experience. It probably would have given me better direction and focus for my life, had I done that.

How's he going to sign up for the GI Bill in Singapore?
or what is this foreign country he goes to from singapore?

or why his curiosity matters if the conscription is mandatory?..
All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

don't worry for Shadovved; he's not going to die. It's not Israel or South Korea. It's just the Singapore military. They let your maid carry your bags to camp...  :p

lol.  Okay.  I'm glad to hear he's going to be safe.  My advice was going to be to volunteer for the typing pool, so he won't be around the shooting and the improvised bombs.  Actually this is still my advice:  volunteer for the typing pool, and put your keyboard skillz to work for your country!

Shadovved isn't rich enough to qualify for superior treatment in Singapore, simple as that. This isn't the Israeli military, where everyone is equal.
