What do you think would look good on this?
« on: Sat, 10 May 2014, 23:23:48 »

Okay, so I'd like to  turn my ugly QFR into something sexy and I want to upgrade to PBT.  I'd like yellow function keys with a darkish blue alphanumeric set and I've been browsing around but haven't quite found anything that jumped at me.  The pic should give you sort of an idea of what I'm thinking of (partially painted keys that came with it) but I don't know how well its going to turn out (but I'd like PBT anyway so its okay).

Anyway you guys are the experts, I've always liked this color combination and can't wait for everything to dry up and throw it back together.

I'll stop rambling now, let me know what you guys recommend!

All black, blank PBTs in my opinion.

With how the colour of the case looks, Commando would have been a good match.

Unfortunately it is ABS, and the GB is over anyway.
"Because keyboards are accessories to PC makers, they focus on minimizing the manufacturing costs. But that’s incorrect. It’s in HHKB’s slogan, but when America’s cowboys were in the middle of a trip and their horse died, they would leave the horse there. But even if they were in the middle of a desert, they would take their saddle with them. The horse was a consumable good, but the saddle was an interface that their bodies had gotten used to. In the same vein, PCs are consumable goods, while keyboards are important interfaces." - Eiiti Wada

Grey PBT's with Green coloured fonts which Imsto maybe able to provide you.  But yes, Commando SA would of looked beastly in that keyboard.

Not many of these PBT dyesub sets were made so you would probably have a very hard time getting one at the moment, but if you are not in a big hurry I will re run them in next full sets buy.

Not PBTs but...

TA Alpha set would look great there too.

I would personally do all white PBT keys. The engraved ones make it look like they are blank.

Ahhhhh so many options. I just bought a used set of all black PBT ducky keycaps from PolarBurrr and if I can do a reasonable job painting the keys that came with the board I might end up going for a commando like color scheme, that does look pretty sleek, but I am fond of old school greys too...choices.

I'll probably end up painting the function keys yellow and maybe leave the alphanumeric the way they are for now, but I've got a can of blue paint too,  this could end up looking like an easter egg by the end of it.

Sweet now I have some ideas to work with lol

Ivan, you have to get these re-run again or do another as soon as possible.  Just miss not having a Complete Key-set plus Tsangan from you again  :'( .

Pink looks good on every board.

Took a long time for the paint to dry but here's what I've got so far.  I didn't sand the keys, other than space and esc so don't make fun, I just wanted to see how it would turn out and practice a bit, but I like the colors so far.  Anyway still deciding on what keys to go for after the black ones I just bought get here.

What colour is the case, really? It looks forest green in the first post, but blue in the last.

It is is blue, Raindrop would be a good choice.

Also because the Raindrop blue is a slightly lighter blue.

It's actually green or maybe teal.

Here's the keypad

I accidentally knocked my escape button over while the paint was drying and tried to sand it before it was completely dry so that looks like crap and the left arrow key got bumped too, I might sand it down and try again but I'm not in the mood for that right now.  That and I'm going to be replacing the key caps anyway.

I'm pretty highly colorblind so maybe this wasn't the best color scheme for everyone but I kinda like it.  Overall I'm pretty happy for a first paint job, I defiantly prefer it to the regular color scheme/logo placement CM had.  Yuck.

Oh and if you like it, this is the paint can.  It doesn't have a color name on it but I got it at Lowes.  Like I said though I'm colorblind so I am the wrong person to ask what you'd call it.
