Got my modded Filco in the mail today!
« on: Wed, 21 May 2014, 22:16:10 »
Big thanks to danielucf for a great deal on his service, I had him swap out the black switches for tactile grey ones, as well as lube each spring and stem, and he modded the LEDs as an extra free goodie.

The board feels amazing and I looove the extra weight on each switch - glad I didn't go with clears!

I just modded my PLU TKL to clears and will post about it once the acrylic coating dries on my casing. (ie I am now using a PLU without casing)

Clears are always worth the work.

My PLU was a real pain, but hopefully your Filco is easier to take apart and to desolder.
Most of the modding can be done on your own once you break through the psychological barriers.

Super strong. I bottom out on every switch I've ever tried, no matter how delicate I try to be.

This one is very freaking firm but I haven't had any fatigue so far so I think I'm gonna love it in the long run as well. We'll see.

Actually im sending it to margo, im too afraid to do it alone. I dont want to ruin anything.
Though the filco is double PCB mounted i believe, so i think it wont be easy
But i have faith he will do a very good job with it :thumb:

That looks really cool!
I was thinking of buying a set like that. Was wondering what white with blue would look like on a black case.

So what did that cost you if you don't mind me asking?

The switches were $53, and caps were $67. Both from MK. Danielucf kept the black switches and did all of the labor for ~$20 (won't give exact number as it is at his discretion).

I didn't intend to have the LEDs changed from red to green but he offered to do it for free so I accepted.

Sounds like a nice deal.

Thanks!

Love the doubleshot Zoidberg key, hope it doesn't get too noticeably shiny since the rest of my keys are glorious PBT.

my god how strong are your fingers??

I had a Cherry POS keyboard at one point that I knew was mostly Browns.  Before I took off the spacebar I knew it had to be something else - likely Clears since it was stiffer; I was pretty amazed when I discovered it was a tactile Grey!  They are much easier to press than Linear Grays.

I am so fvckin jealous of the fact you got this keyboard  :o .  I would die for an all Grey switched Filco such as yours buddy  :thumb: .

Enjoy it in good health because those that are limp-wristed need not know the pleasure of using these type of switches, that just scream out for typing to the extreme.
