Hello Geekhack

Hello Geekhack

I am a long time rubber dome user who 4 months ago switched over to mechanical keyboards. My old keyboard was just dirty and the keys were very shiny. I paid $12 at Compusa for that microsoft keyboard and I refused their "lifetime" guarantee of $19.99 lol to cover the keyboard.

I am still in the experimentation phase, but so far Buckling Springs are my preferred switch type. I have managed to acquire 6 IBM model Ms and 1 Unicomp. The IBMs are much better built than the Unicomp from what I can tell and many seem to share that opinion. I had fun taking apart a non functioning IBM model M to see what's inside. Some of the keys actually worked maybe 15 but that isn't acceptable.

Anyways, I hope to talk with you folks some and learn something new and interesting.

Buckling Springs sure are. The other thing I am most impressed with the IBM model M is how tough and durable that thing is.

They clean up well, so even if it sat in storage for 10 years, it can come out looking brand new with some effort. I'm shocked at the quality of the materials and despite being 20+ years old, they work and unlike quite a few plastic things from that era, no yellowing.

Well my current project is to repair and bolt mod the broken model M I got.

I don't have all of the tools to bolt mod it yet, but I hope to have it finished in a month or two.
