Are there any other places to buy the ErgoDox?
« on: Thu, 29 May 2014, 19:55:30 »
I recently decided that I was going to build an Ergodox. As I browsed the internet, I realized that the massdrop group buy ends in 1 day. With no money to buy a keyboard right now, I was just wondering how often the Ergodox group buys take place, and possibly where else I could get them.

MechanicalKeyboards.com sells the pcb.  And I think case.

Thanks, but unfortunately their PCBs are out of stock. I do like their case better than the massdrop ones.

there arent any other places, but the design is open hardware and you can download the files on the website.

I think DT may have done a GB for pcbs once. There was a minimalist case GB on GH not long ago.

Thank you for this info, but does anyone know how frequently Ergodox GBs occur?

MassDrop does Ergodox drops every few months. Maybe every 2-3. People sell them on the classifieds with decent frequency too. Contacting MassDrop might get you more accurate information on the next drop.

The MK cases are somewhat better than the massdrop ones.  There is no extra hole on the left half, and it looks like the plate can take cherry stabilizers for the 2x keys (I have not actually tried this yet though).

There is Czarek's group order (or whatever it is) on Deskthority.

The schematics and the blueprints for the Massdrop case (Litsters design) and a case for 3D-printing are on ergodox.org.

The PCBs support PCB-mounted switches, so you won't actually need a plate. Many people want them anyway though. The PCBs from MechanicalKeyboards.com and Czarek support PCB-mounted stabilisers also, while Massdrop's don't.
