What is the average age of GeekHackers?

If you assume these midpoint ages (16,  25, 35, 45, 55) and run the numbers (sample size = 51) I get an average age of:

30.235

Which makes me feel CONSIDERABLY better.

- Ripster

lol, me too.
I consider this poll to be a personal war on those under 30 here ;) I was rooting for the 21-30 category staying under 50% :)
(I mean, the under 20 category just doesnt count - I mean come on, they're toddlers!)

Oh no. Not now. I got both NIB's in the last 5 months. I will be holding on to them for awhile. They were such a pain to get in the first place that I won't be quick to part with them. The NIB's are just the sweetest keyboards.

I think statisticians often refer to 20-30yos as "cats," because at that age, age is all you can really pin them down with.

Hey Pook, I think you just took us "over 30s" over the top.

Now watch another 16 year old come in and spoil the whole thing.

Well, from what the numbers show now, there seems to be a die off after 30. Not a good sign.

Its even worse for over 40 ( that would be me ). Wheres greywolf when you need him.

Yeah, its pretty stupid right now. That didn't stop me from getting my last one though. But I want to wait a bit for the mania to die down before I continue. I don't know what has happened recently to provoke such interest in them. Unless, of course its a bunch of geekhackers that are bidding on them.
You know, you can get a regular model m with numpad for a good price. I think I saw a NIB go for under 75 recently. I would think most people would prefer the num pad versus the spacesaver.

ya i have a nice regular one, love it. Its my daily driver. I actually use the numpad on it too. only paid 20 bucks for it.
Every now and then my RSI acts up tho. I've got a mouse bridge on my m right now (and actually its fine that way).  But thats why my thoughts drifted towards the mini for a moment.  If i were to get a mini, i'd get a blue cherry numpad separately and put it on the left side or something.

Having a detached numpad makes sense to me. It allows you to get the mouse closer to the keyboard.
Back in the day, I had a HHKB lite and bought it for that very reason. I never liked having to reach past the numpad to get to the mouse. The ergonomics seemed out of whack to me.

I ended up putting the mouse on the left hand side of the keyboard to negate the issue. Of course, I just severely limited the type of mice I can use.
But I do have a fair collection of ambidextrous mice. I suppose though that since I mostly use numpad-less keyboards I could put the mouse back on the right hand side. But it turns out that having the mouse on the left side has its benefits. It allows me to use my right hand to manipulate the arrow keys and page up/down.
Not so much on the HHKB, but it works great on the filco tenless and model m mini.

I dunno... maybe the other 300+ that haven't voted all fall in that over 71 category and that's what's keeping them from voting.

The korean usually count using different way when they check their age. Usually, korean started with 1 age just after born, becuase Korean think the life of baby started from their mom's body. So korean is older then western people around 1 year old.

Anyway, I am in late 30th ages.

^ Why a poll like this should be a Dirac sampling affair. A finite sampling time will eventually cause results to be blurred.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

When a youngster uses an IBM 300PL in grade 2 and discovers that all other brands are crap after being enraged by HP, Dell, Apple, and everything else.

Personally, I'm surprised people go CRAZY over silly IBM keyboards, but not IBM computers. Yeah, using a fancy Model M on some crappy Dell or HP... the horror.
