Forced to sign up to use search function...
« on: Thu, 12 June 2014, 23:42:46 »
... and now you're suck with me :)

I have an old IBM model M that I've used off and on for years.  It feels great for typing, but sucks at games.  The arrow keys only seem to want to work one at a time.

I'm here because I wanted to find out if WASD's custom printed keycaps are any good.  I'm working on a design that I'm way too excited about:

I'm probably about 60-80% there.  Still want to add some interesting graphics and do something with the esc.

Anyone done one of these before?  How did it come out?  How has it held up over time?

Most people here don't like WASD caps because they're thin ABS

Welcome to GH! Your cap design looks awesome -- never used WASDs caps before so I cant speak to their quality, but your board will definitely look cool  ;D

You have random japanese characters unrelated to the cap all over your board for some reason.

Were you not aware they were Japanese..?

Woah - you guys are quick :D

Pacifist -  As I understand it, the main complaint against ABS is that they get shiny over time.  WASD's website claims that they apply a special 'UV' coating that prevents this.  It seems to be a new addition, so maybe they fixed this issue?  Or it's just marketing bs.  Are there other downsides to ABS, or WASD's caps?

Kayla - The lettering is English, although I chose it because it looks vaguely eastern and reminds me of The Matrix :)  It wouldn't surprise me if whoever made the font just copied / modified  a bunch of Japanese characters.  Does it say anything rude?

Your space bar says Tete.

It can be slang for hands, or father. .-.

TADHLZXCV are all Japanese hiragana or katakana
Numpad 7 and Numpad / aswell, though Numpad / is pushing it.

Just a quicky FYI. You can use google to search most sites, and it is how I primarily find stuff I know was on GH. Just say "site:WEBSITE" in your search...

Ex: "Model M site:geekhack.org"

What Smasher816 said. That native search function blows chunks.

But now that you're here, welcome :D
