ISO enter key fits and holes
« on: Mon, 23 June 2014, 01:07:57 »
Hi I really want to use the old style ISO enter key (small version) I see everywhere on my tipro FREE tmc board in the two holes in the picture below. The problem is I can't find anywhere a picture of the underside of these small iso keycaps as to enquire as to whether they would fit. Does anyone have some pictures or do I need to do a custom modification to do this.

I can't take a pic becasue I left my phone cable at work, but the underside of an ISO Enter key has three stems in a vertical line in the middle. Those two off center switches wouldn't fit and to make it work you would have to totally grind away all the stems and put new ones in

The Tipro has 0.5u staggering between all rows where as a regular QWERTY keyboard has 0.25u staggering on the rows that the Return key spans. That means that a regular ISO Return key won't fit: most ISO keys are 1.5u at the top and 1.25 at the bottom, although there are some rarer ones that are 1.25 at the top and 1u at the bottom. However, the Tipro would need one that is 1.5u at the top and 1u at the bottom - and I don't think that exists.

I think you would have to make your own ISO return key. Tipro' relegendable keys are really the best source of key stems because they are as low as they can be and they are perfectly flat.
Either you would cut a piece of sheet plastic to shape and glue that onto two Tipro keys, or you would adapt a ISO return key to size and glue that onto Tipro key stems.

Note that because the key spans two switches it will be harder to press and a little bit more wobbly than a regular Return key.

what about 1.5 at the top and 2 at the bottom?

how would I gp about doing this - would I need a 3d printer..

I was thinking of desoldering one stem and removing the spring for maybe the bottom stem if I use just two stems for a 1.5 and 1 shaped iso.

:(

oh right thanks. I am going to try contact someone about this and get it sorted for me. I think the best would actually be 1.5 at the top and 2 at the bottom to cover three keyys and have the bottom right programmed as enter and have the springs removed no the others. People are a little hard to contact over at deskthority so if anyone else here is willing to step in to put me in theright direction here - that would be awesome.  :thumb:
