International Shipping rates???
« on: Thu, 26 June 2014, 17:05:51 »
So I was going to send argyakrivos some cherry plate mount stabilizers and he lives in the UK, didn't think it was a big deal.

But I've been calling around and Fedex wants over $100 so does UPS.

The most reasonable amount I've found so far was from USPS which charges 20.55 (or something like that) for intl shipping.

Still, that seems high, especially considering I'm sending a package that weighs maybe an ounce.

Anyway I was wondering if there's something I don't know about, some way to get a package (or really letter) overseas for maybe in the $5-10 range.

People used to have pen pals and I sure as hell know they weren't paying $20 to get a letter to their friend in Yugoslavia.

Any ideas?

It cost me $7 to ship a padded envelope with a clack in it to Epzy first class. Are you trying to send it priority? If you are, that's probably the problem. Same with if you want tracking. Send it through USPS as first class mail in a padded envelope. It'll get there in ~1 week and you'll be able to track the item for free using the Customs declaration number.

From sweden is usually around 7-10$ w/o shipping and 20$ with shipping... You should ask your fellow UK GHers how they ship stuff!
Very busy with studies atm.

I called both UPS and FEDex but didn't actually talk to the guys at USPS, so looks like that'll be the next step.

Thanks!

Not a problem. Express couriers are usually only worth the money if you're shipping large items or bulk. Anything under 5 pounds, just go with USPS.
