Cherry keyboard manager: remap 'z' into 'y'
« on: Sun, 29 June 2014, 08:16:20 »
Hi,

Heard about the Cherry keyboard manager software, to remap certain keys. I want to know if it is possible to remap the 'z' key into a 'y' key (qwertz into qwerty)?

Cherry.de seems to not load for me but I'll try to help you without knowing exactly what that software does.

Only very few Cherry keyboards can be programmed on a hardware level (meaning that they keep their programmed functions even when you attach it to a different computer).
If your keyboard can not be programmed on a hardware level, the most common approach would be using a program like AutoHotKey.

Most of the cherry keyboards you cannot program the alpha keys. The only one I can think of offhand is the G80-1950 and it's terrible.

You can usually just switch to german layout or whatever using your computer.

Another option is to use software like keyremap4macbook or autohotkey (windows).

Best way would be to use other language keymap, or customize keymap if you did want to move Z/Y on DE for example. The legends on the keycaps do not control what the keyboard does, the language keyboard map file in the OS does that where it assigns a charachter to the scancode the keyboard sends. So I can plug in FR azerty board and type US qwerty on it as the OS has no idea what is on the keyboard.
