Difference Between New & Used MX-11800
« on: Sun, 17 May 2009, 21:54:51 »
I have a used Compaq MX-11800 that I'm very happy with. There was recently a listing of an eBay seller with New In Box Compaq keyboards but I got in too late and missed them. I've been in contact and this dealer isn't able to get any more. Before I take off searching for another source of New Old Stock MX-11800s, I wonder how much difference I'll experience between new or used Cherry brown switches? Anybody get one of the NIB offerings after experiencing a used MX-11800? Is there a marked difference?  I'd also appreciate any leads you might have to finding a NIB offering of this keyboard.

I didn't feel a whole lot of difference between new and used Cherry browns.  I would try typing on the letters and then "typing" on the F keys, since they aren't used often, and see if you feel a difference.  I would doubt you would be able to tell the difference.

1. in short, no, there is not a big difference. in fact, i prefer the used key switch is it is not as stiff as a new one. some say the stiffness offers a little more tactility but i personally don't notice it. you are fine.

2. i just prefer my keyboards to be new.

good question on finding NIB mx-11800. unless you find a solution, just patiently use your used one and wait for a deal. when that happens then nab it and put your used kb for sale at an opportunistic time.

Very well expressed. You confirmed what I'd guessed (no huge difference, so long as my used keyboard wasn't hammered on) and re-affirmed what started my quest in the first place: I just prefer new things, especially keyboards.  Thanks for the insight. I'll keep my eyes open and grab one if the chance arises and the price is right.

the only difference is that the new one is a little stiffer than the old one, which is kinda obvious. But other than that, everything is about the same.
