How to put LED on a Poker II?
« on: Wed, 09 July 2014, 22:08:55 »
I'm interested in putting a led on my Poker II as I bought a PBT version. What should I do for the preparation? Any vids or pictures would be great. Thanks!  ;D

You would need diodes and LEDs. Solder in the diodes, and solder in the LEDs. The living soldering thread is a great source on how to solder

99% Sure that Poker II already has diodes soldered on.

You only need to worry about the LEDS, have to desolder the LED joints and solder them in place after.

PLEASE ignore Pacifist's response.  First, LEDs require resistors, not diodes.  Second, they come pre-soldered, so all you have to worry about is the LEDs, as Cottonsox mentioned.

As for how to actually do this, you'll need to first desolder the LED pads.  The manufacturer soldered over the holes, so you need to remove that.  Then, pop the LEDs in, making sure they're in the correct orientation (LEDs, like diodes, and unlike resistors, have a polarity), and solder them in.  Not too hard.  The most obnoxious part is having to desolder all the pads.   :))

^^ this is basically what Cottonsox said, but I just wanted to offer a tiny bit more information.  Hope you don't mind, Cotton!

Thanks for your info. I have determined the type of led before buying and I have read this topic by Photoelectric.
http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=54702.0 Thus, I'm gonna buy a rectangular 2x3x4mm. Still, I have no idea how to soldering but I will keep looking forward tp the living soldering forum.  :thumb:

Wow! This answers all my questions. Thanks a lot for your input. I will do it this week!  :p
