A colleague has one made of leather that is really nice. I personally prefer not using a wrist rest.
I prefer wooden pieces or other hard pieces. Im not a fan of the soft/gel wrist restsShameless plugShow Image
The Grifiti's are alright for the price. But I find the surface a bit too large. Cutting off my blood in my wrist a bit..when typing
I custom build leather wrist rests over in the Artisan subforum I might be biased, but I designed them to be very high quality and so far customers have all been really happy with them.http://geekhack.org/index.php?topic=51762

Some people say a hard material like wood or metal or marble. But that's just ****ing crazy. It's called a wrist rest, not a wrist torture device. Go with something soft, but not too high. Feels good.

They're far more comfortable than something soft and spongy since you rest your palms on them, not your wrist.
I definately rest my wrists on a wrist rest, not palms. Plus it often doubles as a soft buffer between my shins and my sharp-assed desk because I constantly have my legs up. I could never see making the switch, unless I got a really high desk I couldn't put my legs up on.
