Variable weight too. What do you guys like or hate about the variable weight Realforce?
I have both a variable and uniform 87U. They're both great boards for general use. If
all you're going to be doing is typing, then the variable is what you'll want. If gaming is at all a consideration, get the uniform because the lighter switches on the outer keys can lead to a greater risk of accidental key presses.
As more general observations, I wish you could get a backlit Topre board of any kind, but that's not going to happen. Also, the 87U has an issue when used on a Mac where you can use a key press to wake the computer from sleep, but then the whole keyboard goes dead, requiring you to unplug and replug it. The workaround is to use a mouse to wake up the system. It's a bit of an inconvenience that seems like it could be resolved with a firmware update, but none have been released, at least not to anyone's knowledge. There's also no way to contact Leopold (the manufacturer) unless you know Korean. I've sent a question to Elitekeyboards.com's support to see if they can offer any insight but have yet to hear back.
In the end, though, the drawbacks are pretty minor compared to the joy of typing on these outstanding keyboards.
