The creator (Matt) controls future rounds, not SP

I wonder how far behind R2 the Bonus pack will be.

you guys really think I'm making a lot of money out of this? Considering that it took me months to design the legends... no I want to reassure you that I don't :P

They manufacturing it right now. It's a small batch it shouldn't take long.

Because on the day of the actual payment, Paypal decided to deny my credit card for some absurd reason and here I am.

Oh! Yes... You pay 70 US$ (56€) and free shipping. We, in Europe, will pay 70x3=210 € to custom mafia... Nice! :-X

Europe already had GMK!
I checked their web site and I have not found any keycaps set to buy... I don't mind if they have Cherry tools but ask 10,000 sets as minimum order...

This seems like such a weird lapse in supply-and-demand. There are hundreds of requests for this on Massdrop, and lots and lots of posts here. Why isn't Signature Plastics just cranking out a bunch of these and then selling them? Is it a copyright issue? Is there really some gigantic threshold they need to reach before it becomes profitable to sell these keysets? Someone help me out here, because I'm really surprised at the amount of friction here...

They can't sell them without Matt3o's permission. It is his design.

Ah, right. As a newcomer, this "group buy" model is real cumbersome. Sounds like SP needs to just contract with Matt3o and handle everything else themselves. My 2¢ anyway.

I don't think that's the problem. I rather think SP's production capacity is limited, and they have other things to do at the moment, and also Massdrop has done a drop just a few months ago that hasn't even been delivered yet. If you ask for another Granite round now after there were two rounds this year that you both missed, I think it's not asking too much to wait for next year for the next round. I'd rather have a full-blown new GB next year with all the great options like international, colors and novelty keys than a small afterburner round right now with only the basic sets.

That might be another problem with it, but they definitely can't sell without Matt3eo's permission.

Nothing. Matt does as Matt pleases. If he doesn't want another run to happen, it won't happen. If he does want one to happen he'll make it happen.

Now, how true is that? Wasn't there a dispute with Dox over the ergodox kit or some such thing. I genuinely have only heard a very basic version of that argument.

My granite set arrived today. However, I'm not very happy with it. Virtually every key bigger than 1.25u is warped to the point of being unusable without working it over with a hair-dryer. Essentially all the stabilized keys are warped enough to cause Cherry plate stabs to hang. Many of the keys have visible cruciform mold irregularities on the key face. Almost all the keys have some level of light scratch marks from rubbing against other keys (during shipping?).

Not the best photo of the scratches but you can kind of see it

6.25u spacebar warped badly enough it causes Cherry plate stabs to hang

Caps lock keys are a good average for the level of warpage, some keys are worse than this and some keys are better

I don't think I'll be ordering anything manufactured by SP ever again and I'm about 2 seconds away from cancelling my Deep Space order. For the amount of money these keys cost I'm pretty disappointed. I didn't have anything like this from the $20 BangGood PBT set I bought and the Granite set cost 5x that much.

Also, I thought these keys would be packed in that nice little black and blue box from SP with the DSA "thank you" keys on top, but the bags of keys were just thrown into a brown shipping box.

Not cool !

I'm trying to get ready for :
- PBT warping
- Scratches
- Duty taxes

... but I'm not sure I want to deal with any of those things :-X

EDIT : my order has still to be mailed (98th participant).

That is really disappointing.. It is going to look really bad on SP if a lot of sets turn out like this. PBT is different than ABS plastic so the properties are a bit different but some of those keys look like garbage. Also the fact you can see the stem molds through the top...

I truly expected and would have been fine with warped space bars. With the material being PBT and as big of a key as the space bar is some warping is tolerable. However, I was very surprised to find all my 2u and bigger keys are warped badly enough to cause brand new Cherry plate stabs on stock clear switches to hang. Even my 1.5u keys don't sit flush.

If it were just any one of the three issues I wouldn't be that bothered, but it hardly seems worth the effort to spend a few hours burning my fingers with a hair dryer to fix keys with cruciform molding marks and scratches.  :'(

Can you describe this process of using a hair dryer to fix warped keys in case any of the rest of us need to do such a thing?

It's possible that someone has a better method for this because mine involves a lot of trial and error.

Basically you take a hair dryer and point it at the back of the key heating it up until it's almost too hot to touch then gently flex the key in the direction needed. Sometimes you end up tweaking a little too far and have to heat it back up and go the other direction. Other times if you haven't tweaked it enough you'll have to heat it up once or twice more and keep working on it until it sits flush.

If you're working on stabilized keys then throughout the entire process you'll have to wait for the key to cool down and test it to see at what point it starts behaving as expected.

The space bars are the easiest to correct because you can get some serious leverage and use their length to your advantage. The smaller keys like 1.5u and 1.75u are an absolute PITA not only to heat up (burns your fingers way more) but they're so short it's hard to really tweak them that much.
