Greetings EliteKeyboards Subscribers!

New products for June

Two new FILCO Tenkeyless 87-key keyboards are now available. The "Zero"
series Tenkeyless uses XM white switches for folks that really like
their keys to have a strong mechanical CLACK! And, the best-selling
original Tenkeyless based on Cherry MX Tactile switches is now available
in a Special Edition blank key version made especially for EliteKeyboards.
It's like a dark chocolate bar for your fingers, and if you want one
(you will when you see one), then you should hurry, supply is limited.

We're also now offering both standard and N-key rollover variants of the
104-key FILCO keyboards with the option of Cherry MX "Linear" switches.

Accessories: Acrylic roofs for the Happy Hacking series of keyboards
made by Bird Electron of Japan are now for sale.

Updates

The wait for boards with Blue Cherry MX "Clicky" switches is almost over.
Presale for two models will begin later this week. Tenkeyless with and
without blank keycaps will be available; both limited editions.
Newsletter subscribers will receive an e-mail with a 24 hour advance
purchase link.

Alert: Stock of the Realforce 87U Limited Edition is getting low and,
unfortunately, new stock won't be available for several months; if
you've been considering this top of the line board, now may be your last
chance for a long while at the EliteKeyboards price.

Coming later this month: Acrylic roofs for Tenkeyless, Realforce, and 104key FILCOs.

If I was in the US I'd be more interested in the while alps ones, but as I'm not I'll go back to waiting for someone to start selling this in UK layout.

As for the blank, those windows keys look odd without the logo but with the bump, it's not just been sprayed over with the filco coating or something has it?
Owned: Raptor-Gaming K1 (linear MX)(Broken), IBM Model M UK, Dell AT102W, Left-handed keyboard with Type 1 Simplified Alps.

That white-ALPS tenkeyless looks nice... and at 80 bucks, is actually price-competitive with a Unicomp.

But I think I'm at that "I can't bring in any more keyboards-- particularly $80 ones-- without answering complex questions" phase.

I had to leave an AT101W and a Sun Type 5 (nasty feel, but what a layout, and you need one for the bizarre nonstandard Sun plugs) at the secondhand shop recently.

Yum. It's like that cherry-filled chocolate you get at Easter. Looking forward to the blue variety.

Any idea what NPEK stands for?

:sings the opera theme from Final Fantasy 6:

From what I've heard, you can be an otaku on any sort of subject.  The default American example is "anime/manga otaku", but there can also be things like "railway otaku" and... I'd suspect....

keyboard otaku.

I'll probably just get the lettered version of the Blue Cherry board and get a bag of blanks later.  I got a crazy idea of using a mini sandblaster to rough them up.  If I fail at least it'll be fun.

I'm thinking the same thing but I did not think of sandblasting the keys. That is actually a pretty cool Idea.

What I've been thinking about is coating the key top with a type of rubber. But I do like your Idea of sandblasting them. Maybe sandblast then coat with the rubber as that would provide a better surface for the rubber to stick to. Hmmm....

Pardon my ignorance, but what is the main benefit of having blank keycaps except is someone is going to switch layout like going to Dvorak for example?

Wait - these are native USB keyboards that come with a PS/2 adapter. Using the PS/2 adapter gives N-key rollover even though you are piping everything through USB for part of the way. How can that be if USB can only handle 6 keys at once? Does it use a proprietary protocol and a special USB-to-PS/2 adapter?

Apart from that question ... Drool.

Edit> Never mind, I guess this answers the question: http://geekhack.org/showpost.php?p=94625&postcount=6

it's a passive adapter. When it is connected, the keyboard pushes a ps/2 signal down the cable instead of a usb signal. how does it sense when the adaptydoodle is connected? MAGIC

It looks cool!... or so i've heard.  They should make the lettered caps uncoated too (as an option), it'd save you from getting that uneven worn look after the coating begins to rub away.

Oh wow, this is excellently timed news! How early do you think the presale is for the Blue switches coming soon? Like days, weeks, months?

OMG, too much new stuff all at once! I'm going to end up with way more keyboards than I can physically plug into something, and I have a lot of computers around that are usable. :s

I'm looking forward to blues, and the XM white, and extra blanks as well. I like the orange WASD caps (from the other thread), though it looks strange to me to emphasize the WASD. I wish there was a blue enter key though. :D

Oh, and blank keycaps really do keep a lot of people from messing around / using your computer or keyboard, because they can't touch type. One look, a "wtf?" and then they walk away. Bonus points for using dvorak layout with blank key caps.

Other factors:
- Use your mouse on left side
- Screen saver that emulates a blue screen.

Worked an "internet startup" in the late 90s where everyone used everyone's machines. These two strategies worked wonders. Mouse on left has advantage that we righties can write and mouse at the same time.

LOL - I'd use that one on my wife but she would just yell at me until it got fixed.

Your wife shares your PC?  That's your first mistake.  Even my exes (girlfriends that is) had their own computers.  NOBODY touches my rigs without my supervision.

We shared one computer (handed down) when we just arrived in Canada and money was a taboo subject. After a week, my aunt gave us a "old" PC that she was not using. Ever since, we have always had two (at least) computers at  home. Of course, the fact that computer prices have gone down a lot help.

Her own PC? My wife demanded (and received) dual monitors on her separate PC ever since she moved in.

My guess is November 29th, my birthday.

I will let you know AFTER I place my order if it happens sooner.

I hope there's at least a ballparkish estimate given. I'd much rather have it be my birthday... June 9th. No joke :)

Belated.

So Owl wrote...and this is what he wrote:
HIPY PAPY BTHETHDTH THUTHDA BTHUTHDY
Pooh looked on admiringly.
"I'm just saying 'A Happy Birthday'," said Owl carelessly.
"It's a nice long one," said Pooh, very much impressed by it.

The website says that it's en exclusive for Elite Keyboards, so that's probably what the EK bit stands for. The NP could be something like "Non-printed" or the like.

Of course, I could be completely wrong about it... xD
