Did eBay finally listen?
« on: Wed, 13 August 2014, 09:22:36 »
I was checking eBay this morning and saw that they changed their Money Back Guarantee.  Hopefully they actually stand by it and it's not just talk.

"Money Back Guarantee. We updated this section to reflect changes in the Money Back Guarantee, specifically that sellers are responsible for return shipping costs if an item is not as described and that, if an eBay-generated return shipping label is used for return shipping on items not as described, we place the return shipping label cost on the seller's invoice."

It's nice to finally not have to eat the cost on stuff that the seller misrepresented.  It's happened too many times to me and others on here and hopefully makes sellers more honest.

Thank you based eBay overlords. I was just sent a keyboard that was different than from what was advertised. Was worried I'd have to pay for return shipping.

I'm not really thrilled with eBay, I recently left negative feedback because the item was not as described, not all the parts were included etc. The seller went nuts on me sending me hateful messages, cursing me out, etc. So I escalated to eBay who sided with the seller and removed the feedback I left.

Yeah. Unfortunately...I thought I messaged you about it :(. The **** is literally like 30 lbs and is triple the size of what was in the advert.

I've had terrible experiences with eBay.  Never actually had a really one hundred percent satisfied transaction.  I avoid it like the plague, now.

Power seller?  I've heard it's quite easy for them to get negative feedback removed, no matter how psychotic and deceitful they are.  They do bring eBay a lot of money, so I can see why they do it, but it definitely isn't cool that they do it.

I'm just hoping that this isn't a rule for the normal sellers and they still let power sellers get away with murder.  Fingers crossed they enforce the change.

Damn, that sucks.  Now I wish I hadn't posted that.  I hate it when sellers do stuff like that.  Maybe keep fighting it and eBay will side with you so you guys can get your money back.

I've had good and bad.  Usually my good are with normal sellers who are awesome.

This guy would just go off on some tirade about how he was going to call the FBI because I was committing mail fraud, then he said he had my address and knew were I lived (like he was going to do something). Just a real nut case. I even called eBay and talked to a rep and read them some of the messages they agreed they were very inappropriate.

I have somewhat mixed feelings on this.

I sold a video card on eBay a while back and advertised it as Mac compatible listing the *exact* models it supported. Sure enough, some dingle-berry bought the card for his Mac that was not on the list and then belly-ached that it didn't work and that I had ripped him off. I offered him a refund if he paid to have the card shipped back. I probably would have told him tough **** and not refunded his money if I had been forced to cover the cost of return shipping.

On the other hand, numerous times I have received items that were clearly used and sold as new, the wrong items, or missing critical pieces. Half the time I ended up just keeping the garbage because it wasn't worth it to pay for return shipping.

I don't think you would have had to pay the return shipping, if someone with half a brain works in the resolution department of eBay. Since clearly you shipped the item that was advertised, and the buyer was an idiot for buying it.

As a person who has bought and sold over 1K items on ebay, over the course of more than a decade under 3 different accounts, I will have to say that disputes and misunderstandings, as well as outright fraud, can work both ways.

I can say, for certain, that ebay tends to be biased for buyers and against sellers, in general, and that punishing sellers is easy:
just snatch the money out of their Paypal account and hand it to the buyer.

What to do about dishonest buyers? There is very little recourse for sellers there.

"Item Not As Described" is a pissing contest, no matter who happens to hold "the truth" on their side, if you are speaking in terms of appearance or condition.

It is a different story if you ordered "A" and received "B" but the seller is in a very weak position to defend himself since all of the evidence is out of his hands. I have been scammed by a buyer who said that what he received was not what I had sent to him. It was a blatant lie but there was nothing I could do about it to prove my case.

Last, I believe that if an item is accurately described, securely packaged, and properly posted to a verified Paypal address, then the seller has faithfully discharged his obligation and the buyer needs to accept what happens from that point.

I understand that I am in the minority on this point, perhaps because I have sold more than I have bought, but I do not feel that a seller should be held hostage to the buyer's complete happiness and satisfaction, if he has done his duty in good faith.

eBay was good before they went Paypal only. It's too easy to get ripped off now, on both ends of things, buying and selling. I said sayonara when they did that. No more eBay for me.

Wow, that's great! I wonder if they'll take items that were sent prior to this. One of the managers at my other job bought a board that he thought had white alps...turns out they were domes with alps compatible sliders. The seller wouldn't refund because it would have cost as much to ship the board as he paid for it. They had some nice doubleshot caps though...too bad it was azerty layout.

That sounds like a buyer problem, not a seller misrepresentation....unless the seller said white Alps.

I've seen the PM's between him and the seller. Seller 100% said they were white alps mechanical switches. Straight up seller misrepresentation.
