Educate me on BSP keycaps.
« on: Mon, 18 August 2014, 13:22:32 »
Hi,

I've been doing some reading and learned that BSP is another cool European company that does Cherry legends, and has Cherry profile.

I already know of GMK and their double-shot original Cherry molds, so what's good about BSP?

Also I'm looking for vendors (I know of Originative, that's where I found out about BSP, where else?) that sell their stuff, specifically looking for the RGBY modifiers and Red ESC, all in PBT.

Educate me please :)

GMK make doubleshot ABS.

A lot of stuff I've read recently seems to say BSP caps can have crooked stems.

BSP makes dyesubs and dysubs only

they do not make 1.25x mods, 6.25x spacebars, or center stem caps locks.

they are regarded as the best PBT keycaps you can get next to OG cherry ones.

MOQ is 400, like GMK

BSP have had some QC issues, but historically are pretty good about it.

Someone mentioned, I think in Imsto's subforum, that BSP is no longer doing legends. Not sure if it's true.

IMSTO is doing the ones for his GB himself, but I have not seen anything about them not doing legends anymore.

BSP is a company that makes Cherry profile thick PBT keycaps. They look identical to original Cherry dyesubs in profile, although there are subtle differences in the moulds. BSP have recently stopped doing dye sublimation. They now only do it for ML keycaps. I don't have a source for this, but it's what I understand to be the truth.

BSP would be awesome, since they have the ability to basically reproduce original Cherry dyesubs which are considered by a lot of people to be the best keycaps available. However, there are some problems..

  • They don't make spacebars.
  • They don't make scooped F&J keys (some people aren't too bothered about this)
  • Their right shift is messed up. It's thin, it's a few mm too short, and it's really bendy. It looks out of place.
  • They've had some QC issues. Crooked stems, etc.

They also don't do 'modern' layouts as has been mentioned. Overall, yeah they're good keycaps, but they're far from perfect. I would honestly recommend GMK or imsto over them, but then again.. I haven't owned a full set before.

next to OG cherry ones.
General consensus is :

OG>>>>>BSP=imsto

Wait so if they have problems with their right shift mold, does that mean their RGB set is flawed? :( been wanting to get a set.

Thanks for all the replies

Yes, the RGB right shift has the defects Photekq described.

That's a little unfortunate! I guess I'll pick up an ESC anyway, so I have a sample of the best dyesub PBT out there :)
