Omni Key 102 Gold Label with clicky Alps blues
« on: Wed, 20 August 2014, 09:16:18 »
I'm just starting to collect mechanical keyboards and parts to possibly build one from scratch.  I put feelers out and a friend sent me this off his company's "recycle pile".  It's a dream to type on!  I haven't plugged it in to test it (I don't even have an adapter yet) but I do love the feel of the keys.  Apparently this is one of the rarer Omni Keys, and although I don't know what it's worth (but would like estimates!), I don't have any plans to part with it - and it's NOT one I will be disassembling for parts!   ;D

Looks to be a nice one.

The full-size Backspace makes the Bigass Enter much more palatable for me.

The blue alps and the decent layout make that a very valuable keyboard. Nice find!

Thanks for the info.  I do feel like I lucked out right off the bat, although I really don't know what it's worth.  I hope the rest of my keyboard "adventure" isn't downhill from here!

Look around on eBay for past Omnikey auctions, you'll see they often go for well over $100 and rarely do you see this old blue alps version. The guy from Northgate Keyboard Repair (Bob) had ~5 that he sold for $225 plus shipping IIRC and they're long gone.

Blue Alps are the new hype, if I were you I would just throw this on ebay and buy a korean custom and some matias switches with the proceeds ;)

Thanks for the heads up, jwaz- I appreciate it.  I'm still not going to part with it!

Well if you turn out to be an ALPS lover you will probably have a few disappointments but you can find things to appreciate in almost all types of switches.
If you live in AZ you can try my keyboards. I usually keep plenty of different ALPS and MX and buckling springs.

Don't worry, it isn't. You haven't tried Topre yet!  :p

Nice find. I recently got a good price on a second gold label Omnikey, but it had white alps :( Unlucky-- hadn't seen a gold label with white switches before.
