Tricheboars is going to Seoul, Busan, and Tokyo - Advise Him!
« on: Wed, 27 August 2014, 13:19:25 »
'ello fine gents,

So i am going to be in South Korea and Tokyo for two weeks in October. My wife and I are super excited!  But i want some advice. what are in yalls opinions must do events when over there?  where are fun places to stay?

so far i have a few ideas about what i want to do when i am over there. most of it revolves around food. they go as follows:

1.  eat a **** ton of korean bbq
2.  go to a weird karaoke bar with my wife
3.  eat sushi from a place that has a conveyor belt sushi dispensing system.
4.  take a super fast bullet train from seoul to busan
5.  see some cool Buddhist temples
6. get a massage with my wife where someone walks on my back
7.  take a bath in one of those old school wooden bath tub things in japan
8.  eat a ****ton of kimchi and get drunk on soju
9.  go to the weird arcade area in tokyo (akbara i think)

now. tell me what else to do!

thank you fine mother****ers in advance.

Neighborhood in Tokyo is Akihibara. I think there's a guide somewhere on keyboard stores that are in that area but when I went, all I cared about is the arcades :D.

go to akihabara and asakusa when you go to tokyo

asakusa is a giant temple neighborhood

akihabara is nerd paradise, be wary of the sheer amount of porn tho

hey, how about visiting Best Korea?
(...)Whereas back then I wrote about the tyranny of the majority, today I'd combine that with the tyranny of the minorities. These days, you have to be careful of both. They both want to control you. The first group, by making you do the same thing over and over again. The second group is indicated by the letters I get from the Vassar girls who want me to put more women's lib in The Martian Chronicles, or from blacks who want more black people in Dandelion Wine.
I say to both bunches, Whether you're a majority or minority, bug off! To hell with anybody who wants to tell me what to write. Their society breaks down into subsections of minorities who then, in effect, burn books by banning them. All this political correctness that's rampant on campuses is b.s.

Buddhist temples suck. Shinto temples on the other-hand are cool  :thumb:
I'm totally not biased and totally not basing this on the omikuji.

In Shibuya you can visit the Meiji shrine (right off a metro exit too), then walk down from the shrine to Omotesando for some shopping delight. You can go to Harajuku from there if you want to culture and go to ginza from there  :p

OH right funny stupid story time.
More
During winter break some time ago, my college friends and I were waiting for our Japanese friends to get off work and meet with us.
As we were killing time, we saw this somewhat random shrine and decided to go to it.
After waiting a bit in line and praying, we accidentally wandered into Kabukicho which is the red light district.
It was still daytime so we had no idea wtf was going on and why there were a bunch of shady dudes inviting us in.
We were quite bewildered until it clicked that we had walked into the red light district.
YEA.
Best shrine ever.

Shibuya theres a lot of expensive fashion while in harajuku the clothing is a lot cheaper but its aimed more at teenagers and generally people who like colours. When in akihabara remember to definitely go to yodobashi camera for all your tech needs. And finally if you want to visit one of the biggest malls over there, go to aeon mall which is in chiba if i remember correctly.

There's a ramen place in Tokyo that I LOVED

Take the Keio line from Shinjuku, to Shibasaki (you have to take the local train)

Get off the train, and walk straight in the opposite direction of the 7/11.

The place is here

Huge bowl of ramen for 500 yen (like $5 USD), double noodles for free. Ask for "Shoyu ramen" and be a happy man

Coin operated restaurants are also a lot of fun. Don't need to talk to anyone, and if you don't speak Japanese, it'll be a lot of fun seeing what you get when you order. I think they have these in Korea as well.

In Japan:

Go to a Arcade and see what's new.  It's a few years old now but I think Sega came out with a remade Pengo game with ... 8 player support !!!  Also a Darius shooter (shmup) that is three screens wide! (I think it was Darius not 100%)

Also for cuisine - I love calves liver, tripe, tongue - organ meats aka OFFAL.  In Japan they have specialty restaurants that serve offal cuisine or otherwise called 'Horumonyaki'.  I'm sure some of it is absolutely delicious.

I've been searching Japanese food marts for this one dish called Okonomiyaki - it's a big pancake with vegetables, mayo, fish flakes - etc ... it looks MAGNIFICENT and I want to live vicariously through you!

It's a few years old - so who knows what insanity is available now.

There are a few good ramen places in akihabara, theres one shop with chicken katsu ramen which is absolutely delicious. Also ask around for miso ramen. I forgot the name but theres this place where they sell miso of all the different regions in japan.

In japan you can choose what you have in your okonomiyaki. Additionally there are a few places where they give you their premixed batter and you can cook your own

I've seen a lot of youtube/etc videos of sushi places in Japan where there is no soy sauce/condiments - everything is preseasoned to the Chefs tastes and if you don't like it you can GTFO.

You won't see that in 'Murica.

Just go to one of those sushi train places. Theyre called kaitensushi and there is one in shibuya
