Should i desolder?
« on: Wed, 03 September 2014, 13:23:53 »
I'm getting a ton of other keyboard stuff in the mail soon, and basically I'm moving around parts and things to get my new home keyboard built, a keyboard for work, and an extra.

My current work board is a PokerX, that I'm thinking about returning to stock form. ( and I need to steal the plate and stabs from it ) as I'm going to keep it in my backpack as a travel board ( I do tons of writing on the go, and don't want to beat up a nicer keyboard ) And going back to plateless I can play around with swapping out switches.

The problem is the PCB was  heavily damaged when I bought it used, and its been soldered several times. Quite a few of the traces were lifted/broken/damaged, and it required a fair bit of hand wiring to get it to work. ( and it fully works now )

basically most of the right hand side of the keyboard had to be hand wired, and the area around the escape key as well, and several other single switches.

The problem is, if I take it apart, I'm really afraid I won't get it back into working order.

Guys think I should give it a go? or just leave as is.

I'm pretty brave with a soldering iron but you couldn't get me to desolder that with a 10 ft pole  :))

and aside from the obvious hard wired ones, there are about 5-8 other single switches that needed to be bridged.

It was a train wreck when I got it.

I'm really surprised I got it back to working 100%
