DELL AT101W second hand
« on: Mon, 15 June 2009, 19:28:17 »
Just started typing yesterday on the second hand dell AT101W I purchased.  Having started my mechanical keyboard collection with a Cherry G84, followed by a Cherry G80, am liking the G84 and the Dell more than the G80 with blue cherries.  I seem to type a lot faster and more accurately on the dell than the G80, don't know if it's because of harder firmer switches on the dell.

Anybody know modern keyboards with about the same key feel as the Dell?

You can get an ABS M1 with black ALPS like the AT101W on newegg for ~$69.
Can't get enough of them ALPS

The ABS M1 uses switches that are a copy of the Black Alps used in the Dell. If you live in the US or Canada, you can get one off Newegg.

EDIT: Classic example of what happens when two people answer the one question at the same time on a forum :)

I'm not sure about the Dell, but my g80 with blue cherries feels kind of how you describe. Although the click and tactility is there, it just doesn't feel as crisp.

Thanks for all the replies.  I got the Dells at a bargain for around 12 dollars each.  The letters are a bit faded but they're still a joy to type on.

There was a guy who was selling new ones around Christmas for about $5 a piece (If you made an offer that was). They're quite a nice board to type on, but I find I type faster on buckling springs.

I scored one of them, cheap. Wish I would have gotten a couple more of them. If only to harvest the keys and put them in the filco mini.
Too bad that ABS on newegg didn't come in a tenless design.
Almost makes me want to get rid of my M's ; )

Yeah, I got one too, and converted it into UK layout using the PCB from an AT102W whose switches had worn out.

Filco should make black alps boards to complement their white ones. At any rate, they come out of the same factory as the ABS ones..
