Filco Zero - How loud is it?
« on: Wed, 17 June 2009, 07:37:51 »
I hear that white alps are fairly loud.  How loud is the filco zero?  I just visited elitekeyboards and their stock of filco zeros has run dry.  I think its safe to assume that someone from these boards purchased a filco zero.

How loud is it compared to BS, Blue cherries, etc...

Thanks is advance!

Check out Bigpook's review.

The consensus was that they were in and around the noise level of a buckling spring board.

There seems to be a fair amount of interest for the filco with white xm's. Now that elitekeyboards is selling them maybe some members will pick one up. The pricing sure is good. I am curious as to what other people think of it. I found them to be a bit balky and they tired my fingers. I loved the sound though. So if any members here score one, please do a review. : )

I concur, the noise level and quality are similar, with the Filco Zero having a slightly higher pitch.

I think myself and bigpook ended up with the first revision of the keyboard which has - in my opinion - some fairly serious flaws.

Lack of volume was not one of them.

And in the ballpark of buckling springs is about right.

I would imagine it sounds like this 'board (it sounds like my Northgate, so I would think it's at least close): http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?t=4820

I have a Northgate Evolution with real Alps, and I'd say they're a little less loud as Cherry Blues, but the same high-pitched noise. BS is more clacky but not as high-pitched, and I don't find them as intrusive.

My Northgate is incredibly loud.  Much louder than my Ms.  That's pretty much the only reason I don't use it anymore (that, and I like brown Cherrys better).  It's a great switch, but it's loud as hell.
