Wired keyboard like laptop keyboard
« on: Sun, 21 September 2014, 05:48:53 »
Hello,

I am currently using my laptop and plan to make a desktop in the future, I love the current feel of the keyboard and was wondering if I could get a wired USB keyboard like it.
The laptop is a Gateway NV57H06h (Chiclet Dome/Scissor keyboard)
I looked around and found something on this forum: http://www.capacity-keyboard.com/kb-801N.html
Does anyone know anything about this keyboard?
Are there any other keyboards similar?

if you generally mean a wired "scissor-switch"ish keyboard the cherry G84-4100 fits the criteria even though it's more compact than the one you linked

If you want a keyboard similar to a laptop keyboard, you can get those everywhere for very cheap. Just go to a local electronics store.

I'm looking for one similar to my laptop keyboard but with higher build quality and features like NKRO.
That cherry keyboard looks nice, but the keys are too close together and I don't like the lack of a numpad.

That will be hard to find since rubberdome/scissor switch keyboards usually use membranes which cannot really do NKRO. The Microsoft SideWinder X4 is a scissor switch board with almost NKRO (I've found somebody saying 26 KRO), but it does not have the island style keys you want.

I don't think what you want exists. Maybe try a board with MX Reds, they're really light so maybe you wouldn't mind the increased travel as much. The keys being higher has the same effect as island style keys as there is more of a gap between the keycap surfaces.

I really like the Apple aluminum keyboard, despite my lineup of mechanical/topre boards. They have a USB full sized or Bluetooth compact. The keyboard you linked in OP looks like it's based off the Apple board... very similar.

I wanted to try the Lenovo USB Compact but haven't yet. Might be worth a look, as the Lenovo laptops can (ie. some) have some of the best laptop keyboards, and seem to be the only laptop producer who even give a second thought to the keyboard design and feel.

Both of those should not have NKRO though.
