Should I Get the Ducky Mini or KBP V60?
« on: Tue, 30 September 2014, 14:05:58 »
Just want some input from people who've had these keyboards.

Ducky Mini or KBP V60

In case anyone wants to recommend a Poker II, I'm not fond of where they programmed the FN arrow keys, so I've ruled it out of my consideration.

You can reprogram the entire Fn layer on the Poker II. It's one of the strongest selling points, IMHO. In fact you can reprogram the whole board, main layer and Fn layer and even replace them with macros.
Buying more keycaps,
it really hacks my wallet,
but I must have them.

v2, I guess. The one that we have hundreds of in stock currently; not the one that never made it to our shores here in the US.

Curious about why the Ducky Mini v2 ranks higher than the V60. Isn't it less customizeable due to the Micro-USB placement?

Yes but the Ducky Mini V2 has the perdy light effects and umm well its Ducky.

I'm not a backlight person, but still light show...

Edit:I also forgot it has mouse keys. For some strange reason some ppl like moving their cursor around the screen is if it were controlled by an Etch A Stretch.

Mouse keys sound interesting, but I didn't think backlighting would be as big a deal as quality/customization. I know the build of Duckies has been vouched for constistently, though.

The Poker 2 is self contained, no software needed programmable and mass produced. By now basically all the bugs have been worked out. Oha and all the mods.

The V60MTS has Matias switches and that's something that almost no 60% keyboards have, so that's worth more than basically everything the Ducky mini has going for it. You still get the same case compatibility you have with the V60 but sadly the keycaps will be harder to come by.

The Ducky Mini V2/2014 drops some of the compatibility, but gains the lighting, cursor keys, unique case and the side USB connection which I do think is a little better.

The V60 isn't 100% compatible with most of the cases at this point, it will work, but will still have some noticeable problems like dip switch clearance, slightly larger gap due to the V60 plate being slightly smaller than the pokers and not all the mounting screw holes match up. What the V60 has going for it is it's a little bit more simple than the Poker 2, has some good preset options and potentially cheaper.

Edit: Something else to think about is the [CTRL]ALT 60 $50 PCB with the controller pre installed, you provide everything else and build it how you want.
