Das Melt
« on: Mon, 22 June 2009, 18:46:24 »
My Das 3 seems to be melting or peeling somehow. It's doing it on the back on both sides of the cable. The bottom half of the shell looks like it's peeling away. Has anyone else seen this before? I don't think I've subjected this thing to a lot of heat. Certainly not enough to effect many things - I haven't noticed any other melty objects in this room.

The pictures aren't too clear but should give you an idea of what's happening. In the first picture, you're looking almost straight down. In the second, it doesn't look like much is happening but it's quite apparent in person.

You sure it hasn't always been there? A lot of people's Das' are like that. There's a thread floating around here where someone posted a picture, and people were checking the back of their boards, to find exactly the same

I don't think anything in a keyboard can get hot enough to melt the case other than the soldiering process and that is done with the case opened.

Everytime I read stuff like this, I breath a great sigh of relief that I didnt buy that Das that I almost bought last year... RMA or no RMA, they really seemed to have screwed up just about everything with the keyboard.

Well, I wasn't talking about heat from inside the keyboard itself, but heat in general. My UPS has been overheating and warming up the room noticeably (not Hot, but a lot warmer than usual), but again, nothing else has been effected so I might assume this is "natural" for this keyboard. Bummer.

I only noticed this now but it was definitely not like that when I bought it. I don't know how long its taken to reach this point but I don't like my keyboards getting all warpy for no apparent reason.

And off topic, I really have to clean my windows. I just took a bunch of pics of a squirrel making a meal out of my window frame. Blurry pics. Very blurry pics. Yay.

Ack! Mine has that too. I'm sure it wasn't like it when new. My room hasn't been hot. Tell me they didn't just glue the two halves of the case together.

They come like that.
Inside there is not a lot of room for the USB cable, it pushes on the lower half of the case and makes it bulge out like that. I will find a picture of mine if I can.
You dont need to worry about it.
Unfortunatly if you try and open the DAS you might end up breaking the clips that hold it together or scratch the outside of the case. They are made to snap together and stay like that.
