Typing on a Unicomp Spacesaver
« on: Fri, 26 June 2009, 02:00:56 »
I've been typing for a few hours on my unicomp spacesaver.  It really is a joy to type on for the most part.  However, at this point, my right thumb which I use to hit the spacebar is hurting a bit.  I use the side of my right thumb to hit the spacebar, and there is this dull pain I am feeling.  I haven't felt this on any of my other mechanical keyboards.  Anyone have a similar experience?

Am just curious.  Aside from this, typing on it has been great.  I may have to practice switching thumbs, that's probably going to be a bit difficult. Hehe

It could be the stiffness of the space bar? Have you seen the force-reduction mod with the dry lubricant? (It's in the the mods section)

i reckon it's the height  and your thumb is hitting the edge. that and it's stiffer than most.

Even a regular Esc key is good to have with a GF.

Sorry!

Wet lube is so much better, IMO.  I like the all-natural kind, personally.

You're a bunch of sick guys...Talking about guys, we don't have many women on this forum, do we? I'm just curious to hear the input of women on keyboards. My wife does not care. As long as it's not an ergo keyboard, she's happy, I meant with her keyboard LOL.

Well, we used to have Sandy and Chloe who havent posted much lately.

Sandy's a guy though.

Chloe must have tripped over some black hole (and promptly disappeared in it) just about a week before yours truly really started posting on here. Bad timing.
Hardware in signatures clutters Google search results. There should be a field in the profile for that (again).

This message was probably typed on a vintage G80-3000 with blues. Double-shots, baby. :D

Are you sure about Sandy? I'm pretty sure I've seen more than one person use "her" when refering to Sandy.

Seems like one of us is going to end up being quite embarrased by this :p

which was quite easy to figure out, as there are--as we all know--no women in the Internets.

On topic, :), congrats on buying a spacesaver. I love mine and actually think I like it better than my customizer 104 for daily typing. It's just a little tighter feeling. In terms of the spacebar, I haven't noticed any injuries with my finger while using it. Maybe you just need to toughen up and get a little more calloused. These buckling spring boards require a little more effort that you're probably used to, but you'll get the hang of it and your fingers will strengthen up. This is what happened to me.

LOL - Man up to use a Buckling Spring keyboard.  You sound like my guitar teacher when I first tried steel strings after Classical Nylon.  Guitarists do it till their fingers bleed.

I see ... so that's how you got that red Escape key.

On topic: My Endurapro was my first decent keyboard, I've never had any problems with key feel whatsoever. Since it's essentially a Space Saver, this should apply to the Space Saver as well.

Nah its not really that much of a problem, I was into guitar playing before and yes, the tips of my fingers got calloused.  Likewise ripped my hands up and literally bled when I was into rowing.  Maybe it's because I type around 70-90 wpm which hurt my thumbs.  I noticed I was hitting the spacebar on the edge, not dead center too.  But it still is a joy to type on.

I think of the current active posters, only 2-3 are women (I know 2 are for sure).  One of our most knowledgable posters was a woman, Chloe, and miss her greatly.
